Just caught up on yesterdays coaching thread and…. wow. Impressively off the rocker, even for us

Anyways, will the reason for Chester leaving be made more clear after made official?
@Indy Illini Fan @illini0440 @DB11Headband @LvilleILL

I know there have been posts about potential reasons why but don’t want to speculate too much
I think if Booth comes in, and Amani follows Chester....it should make it crystal clear what happened IMO.

I have no idea what Underwood is looking for in putting a staff together, but with his resume, I know he understands what each staff member needs to contribute. After reading Hamer's bio, I don't understand why Hamer was promoted to a non recruiting assistant coach. However I don't need to know since I'm not the head coach. Underwood made the choice and I'm fine with that. I will say I would love the idea of Yaklich taking Hamer's position and then hire another top recruiter to replace Frazier. I like Saban's Rehab program of hiring former head coaches to work for him a couple years and then moving on. New ideas can be an asset and rehabbing a former HC so he can take over another program only embellishes Underwood's reputation as a program builder. The same can be said when an assistant is hired for their first HC position, so I hope Alexander gets his first HC gig after next season.

One more thing, I don't know why Frazier left and I really don't care. Underwood is responsible for building the program and if he makes bad hires and the Illini suffer as a result, he'll be fired and Illinois will have a new coach. I support the team and will regardless of the coach. Having supported Illini athletics since the mid '70's, I've learned that the AD is more important because they make the decisions on the coach and more bad coaches have been hired than good ones. I like Whitman's hires in BB and some of the other sports, so I think Illinois is going to have something to be proud of in the years ahead. I'm still not sold on FB, but that's a discussion for a different board.

I think absolute best case is we get Cohen and Yaklich to replace Chester and Hamer, should help improve recruiting significantly (Cohen) while patching one of our biggest issues from last year (defense).
Wouldn't that depend on the relative humidity of "the ink"?

Lmao....So unimportant that you've made the strongest attempt of anyone here to white wash it!
I point out ignorance.

Jumping off a ledge into the sea of “what did he mean” is awful. Dragging others into the “this is what he meant and everyone be perpetually offended with me” is worthy of ridicule.

I promise I will give everyone else the last word. I don’t want to be banned or have motive tagged to me (probably too late) by the intellectually lazy.

If it helps to end any further derailment, it never has been and never will be my intention to stir up some political angle in any direction on this board, any belief to the contrary is incorrect, and I am in total support of Dan's efforts toward keeping that stuff on the zillion other places on the internet where it belongs.

I didn't see that coming today and I will endeavor to see that you're all mad at me only about the Illini henceforth.

Carry on, we've got an assistant to hire.

wait hold on…. Is Will Wade actually an option?
If I am reading it correctly, Will Wade just signed a new contract at $700k/year for 5 years. His prior contract was $235k/year for 5 years. A 30 win season will get you a new contract after 1 year instead of the original 5.

He's had to pay his penance for an infraction that is no longer a crime. I'm willing to bet we could easily beat $700k for a top assistant. Will Wade is a very good coach, but I do wonder if there could be some friction with a guy who definitely wants back into the big time. Would he be willing to take orders, or would it lead to arguments over differing opinions?

Easy Guys lol. Gary just said he “will wade” back through Indy’s posts from last night. Pretty sure that’s all that prompted Wade’s picture to be posted. Cohen and Clark have been the two names thrown out the most.
yeah, didn’t even realize the play on words till Indy’s reply. Apologies.

I’d bet Wade will be at a power five school very soon. If he continues to stack wins at McNeese, someone will come with a strong !!! offer. I fail to see how taking an assistant job would help him. All he has to do is keep winning where he is.
