UK is going to want him gone before that so they don’t have to pay the retention bonus. OA will be in somewhere else within a month.

The allure of Lexington also is the thoroughbred farms in the city..........I lived there for almost a year in 1970-71 working on the railroad....beautiful bluegrass every where and if they let it grow high when the wind blew it was mesmerizing to watch.........
Lexington greatly improved their traffic problems when they built New Circle Road , which is an interstate type road that encircles the city..........Haven't been back for at least 20 years so i have no idea about it now........But , it is a picturesque setting area with plenty to do.......

When I was there was the first year that Rupp recruited a black player , Tom Payne.....I went to 3-4 games up in the nosebleeds , but the vitriol I heard yelled at him was eye opening to me as a 19-20 year old ............It really really was...............

Here is the link to his Kentucky contract. Orlando Antigua
In summary, Kentucky can't terminate Orlando in the absence of cause. In addition, under its terms, in the event of the Head Coach leaving Kentucky, Antigua is still entitled to continued payment of the compensation set forth in the contract for 6 months from the Head Coaches resignation, specifically including payment of the $400,000 June 30, 2024 retention bonus.
Thus, even though Pope would be a fool not to retain Orlando if he could under a new contract, to the extent that Pope wants to hire his own staff from scratch or to the extent that Orlando doesn't want to work for him, then the only way to fill Orlando's position before June 30th is to pay off all of Orlando's remaining compensation including his retention bonus immediately to fulfill the termination requirements of the contract so that an assistant coaching vacancy exists that Pope can fill for one of his 3 off campus recruiting assistant coaches, which Pope desperately needs as he starts his new position.
Orlando is completely in the driver's seat here and Kentucky is at his mercy until June 30, 2024 when Orlando once again becomes a free agent.
I don’t read that as paying the retention bonus. The head coach termination clause seems to limit that to comp and benefits.

Well … He couldn’t “work” for us until then …

Just like TA wasn’t “working” for us …
Well yes, there is that. But I’m guessing once it became public knowledge then I’m thinking there would be some kind of clause to boot him out. In my line of work, if you are going to work for a competitor you get two weeks pay but you’re shown the door immediately. Not sure if that applies here but there are always informal channels.

As someone who left CU:

If you like outdoor activities, most places are more scenic, and offer more options than CU. I'd rather hike in nice green woods with rolling hills than the cornfields. How close do you want to be to a nice lake, or maybe skiing? I certainly do not miss the freezing winters and hot, humid summers.

Restaurants: Larger cities often have a larger choices in restaurants. So long as you can find the ones you like, having more doesn't matter. CU isn't bad. It isn't the same as a bigger city where you can go to the place that specializes in X.

Entertainment: Want to go see live bands? The theater? The symphony? The ballet? Have every major musical/dancing act stops though? Around here during the summer I can see 3-4 there free outdoor concerts a week within a 7 mile radius. CU is way above average for its size in this regard. It still isn't the same.

Travel: Its nice to be able to take direct flights most places. Visiting CU is a major pain. Going from NYC to/from LA is easier (JFK and LAX are terrible).

People: Larger populations mean there is a larger chance of finding people with similar interests. CU may have a group with your interest. What if you really don't click with someone in that group. In the larger area, you can find another group.

Sports: Want to go see the pro football/basketball/soccer/baseball/... team? (I hear some people are demented this way.)

Imagine being used to all of the above and then moving to CU.

CU does have its advantages: It is CHEAP to live in CU. Krannerts punches well above the city weight. Traffic is rarely an issue. The town is mostly safe. Most importantly, you can watch IL games in person.

There are definite downsizes of living in bigger cities: Cost. Traffic. Travel time. Crowding. Many not so nice neighborhoods. Bureaucracy. If you have time and money, the two biggest issues mostly go away.
Understand your point. I live 30 to 2 hours away from DC Depends on traffic part of the city and time of day

Depending on where you live in the CU area you can be in Indy and almost St Louis.

Unless u live downtown in a major city you will have some travel

Given that they are both from the Dominican Republic and that they both have played on various Dominican Republic National Teams during their careers, IF Orlando Antigua does end up back at Illinois on Brad's staff in the not too distant future, would that be significantly helpful in getting David Jones to finish his college career with the ILLINI?

If O comes back ...

I think David Jones, and Koby Brea are definitely on the table ...

That seems a little unfair to her. Her wanting to leave was a result of his actions.

Allegedly.
Yup. Money can fix a lot of issues, but this is likely not one of them. Difficult to blame her for not wanting to come back based on knowledge of one of the more well known assistant "secrets"...

Grew up in East Central Illinois, have lived in Lexington, now Winchester (20 min east) for the past 15 years; right at the end of Billy G and beginning of Cal.

Lexington is a big little city. You can do a lot of stuff around Lexington and drive 5 miles out of town and you’re in some of the most picturesque landscapes you’ve ever seen. Bourbon and craft beer in every county.

Nashville, Knoxville, Indy, Lville, Cincy all with a days drive; but the allure of April & October during Keeneland would make anyone want to live here. Fall is UK/SEC Football and since Stoops has revived that program it’s a great atmosphere.

@pruman91 the traffic has gotten worse. They have made adjustments, like widening New Circle, but the city does not really want to expand and they are busting at the seams. We moved to Winchester to get more house for the price. Love the drive everyday.

Orlando moved back to UK to see his daughter graduate, as someone mentioned, she has, so that allure has passed.

If you’ve gotten this far, thanks for reading, I am sitting in another feature of Lexington, one of their great hospitals. Right next to me is my newborn son, who hopefully in 18 years will be suiting up for the orange and blue and playing in Assembly Hall!

I’ve got some deets as they say on the UK coaching search as it happened and how they landed on Pope, that’ll be for tomorrow.

I feel like this off-season is going to be defined on if they get Antigua or not. How long are they willing to wait? I’ll be keeping my cup on.

Being just a small town cowpoke, I’ve always been ignorant and wondered about this… what makes it better? To me, all cities seem the same. They have restaurants, bars and Costco. What’s so much better? 100% genuine question.
Oh boy, seems I misread this the first time when I responded. I thought the question was asking what makes one city better than another (i.e not the same). Didn’t mean to make it sound like I was hating on Chambana so much. That said, Lexington is like 3x the size of Chambana so many of the things I mentioned are probably true, but it’s not like Lexington is a paragon of cosmopolitanality either.
