JMO- Kentucky and OA are in a standoff. OA is not leaving until he collects his $400k retention bonus. It will payout end of June. Kentucky appears to want to replace him (very high salary and probably does not match Pope ways of working) but is hoping he will leave without the bonus. $400k is a lot of money so OA will probably have to stay till July 1. Then he can start wearing his orange wardrobe again.

O holds the power and they just saved $30M by not having to buy out Calipari, they'll pay O to leave.

Yeah they are on meth if they think he will just forfeit the money. Is 100% a foregone conclusion he will stay for at least that long if he needs to.
I mean couldn’t they just fire him and then he wouldn’t be owed the stay bonus?

Could be related to his buyout though. If he leaves on his own he’d owe (I’m assumkng a prorated portion) of $250k per year.

$400k is chump change to the Kentucky basketball budget, especially considering the Calipari money they saved long term. I would anticipate that a "deal" will be in the works between multiple parties (even a small possibly including U of I) to payout this bonus very soon. I highly doubt that Kentucky will stand in the way of Pope filling out his staff in a timely matter because of trying to avoid a rather trivial amount of money in the grand scheme of things. Their fans are already on edge to begin with.

+1 & it isn't even a 400k difference, it is just when they pay the 400K. So even if KY & Pope wants to keep OA, if you know he is gone on July 1, wouldn't you rather pay the 400k a month or 2 early so you can get on with filling your staff, especially with portal wide open right now.

Me: Is this a sign?

Leslie Nielsen: Yes. That’s exactly what it is.

If Illinois is hiring OA, Kentucky and OA will reach an agreement to leave prior to July 1.

Absolutely correct. Kentucky has the lowest ground possible in this situation. The only hope they have is OA leaves before the date to fill another position (i.e. other school ends up paying). OA has all the power. Given the tiny amount of money it is to their budget and ground lost by waiting, the correct move would be pay this out ASAP.

Sorry if this has been discussed- any chance Underwood internally promotes Tyler to the “big” AC position?

Oddly enough, I happened to run across some of these old spy parody films and started to watch them again. I am currently watching one of the Matt Helm (Dean Martin) films. I always found them kind of fun to watch especially now as they are unintentionally funny. Martin is too old for the Matt Helm character and one jaw-dropping moment was when he was driving his car with Stella Stevens in the passenger seat (neither wearing seat belts) and Martin flips a switch or something and out pops a mini-bar and he and Stevens just proceed to pour whiskey down their respective throats while just driving along like this happens every day to everyone. Which maybe it did back then. Crazy.

Not that this is off-topic or anything. :)
