My question is where is Antigua in future carousels. Is he still wanting a head coach position? What level would he accept? How "damaged" is he from his first try?

Wow somebody forgot to tell Kansas Storr will destroy their team.

With the addition of Storr they are now favorites to with the NCAA championship next year.

No amount of cope can wallpaper over this miss. The kid is a preseason all American. Weber era cope were we justified that Jaylon Tates would get “coached up” and missing Rose was “dodging a bullet” because of his “crazy family”

We’ve been talking to the kid for the past six months, had handshake deals but in the end we were scared to pull the trigger.
Hated to miss out on Storr, especially to Kansas. As far as that goes weren't they ranked #1 at the beginning of the season this year. That didn't work out like they thought it would. 😎

Someone needs to remind you they were the favorties at this time last year also.

Storr is another player that can't guard a chair. Will fit right in with Hunter.

I dunno about this take. We offered first and the kid wanted to most he could get and shopped around. Kansas came in below his asking but the kid still chose Kansas. Do I blame the staff? We can’t get them all. Plus we have a lot of positions to fill. Can’t spend all our coin on one guy.

I wonder if we will be playing at KU for a return exhibition game. I would love to get a win there and have both Hunter and Storr lament about how they’ve never beaten Illinois.

I don't mind us not taking Storr. As Billy Beane said, "The day you say you have to do something, you are screwed. Because you are going to make a bad deal. You can always recover from the player you didn't sign. You may never recover from the player you signed at the wrong price." And by price, I don't just mean NIL. There can be a price to pay in terms of chemistry and morale for signing the wrong player under the wrong circumstances.

Yes, but…. What have the A’s ever accomplished in the Moneyball era? For all the talk about their resourceful spending, they’ve languished — at best — in a tepid bath of mediocrity. Big spending doesn’t guarantee a title, but the Oakland method shouldn’t be the blueprint anybody follows.

1. This is a basketball forum, so I don't want to get into a big discussion about Billy Beane, the A's, or the relative merits of their success given their budget.
2. Regardless of how you feel about the A's, Beane, or Moneyball, the quote rings true, and its truth is particularly applicable to the case of Storr.

I'm actually one of the people who can say I didn't want him anyway " and actually mean it. Nothing about him suggests to me that he could be part of a team with the chemistry we just witnessed.

Self on the other hand seems capable of dealing well with prima donnas.

Still need a lot of scoring but there is a fair amount of time. I'd just like to have an off season where I'm merely a spectator by tax day.

No one said we didn’t want him anyway or that he would destroy Kansas. They did say he was ready to come until his mom got involved, that we weren’t willing to pay the price it went up to a point we weren’t comfortable, and then the staff pulled away. So just keep making crap up and crest your own narrative.

The bottom line is the portal makes this a whole new ballgame. There are tons of great players in it and more that haven’t even entered yet. Times have changed and you don’t have to rely on the one big high school recruit anymore. You do have to consider fit & parents (see Hurley’s recent interview). I’d rather get guys that want to be here and that staff feels will be a fit.

I played and coached college baseball, and I never had a teammate or player whose parents were a problem, that was a good teammate. So I could be biased or I could be completely wrong. I’m not going to freak out right now, 6 months before games start though.

I’m going to be patient and trust that the roster will come together with some good players, because they’ve shown they can do that. You can keep worrying and posting negative crap all the time. I’m guessing you need an outlet to let out your frustrations.

If Kansas wins a natty and Storr is an All-American feel free to keep receipts and call me out for saying “missing out on Storr may be a blessing in disguise”

Is Storr an X and O guy or primarily a recruiter?

lol, I know you didn't just compare AJ Storr to Derrick Rose.

I watched Derrick Rose since High School, I bought Derrick Rose merchandise. AJ Storr, sir, is no Derrick Rose.

Dude… you’re the one who started the Billy Beane discussion by bringing up Billy Beane.

But sport aside, the parallels equate. Those teams that try to get by on the cheap more often than not show cheap results. Meanwhile, the teams that spend big (Yankees, Dodgers) may not win every championship, but they’re ALWAYS in the discussion. The A’s seldom, if ever are.

I’m not saying we should’ve paid what Storr was asking or that he’ll immediately solve KU’s national championship needs. But I want Illinois to error on the side of spending big as opposed to penny pinching.
