The Lakers are going to have to throw silly money at Hurly in order to get him away from UCONN. If you're Hurley, you can look at this as the chance to take care of your family's financial security for a couple of generations no matter what happens with your team on the court. I couldn't blame a guy for jumping at that chance.
And worst case, in 2-3 years he can pick any job he wants if he comes back to college and pick his price.

If I'm not mistaken that was the same rationale when Kruger went to the Atlanta Hawks...five years at a milly a year. Must have seemed like all the money in the world - then .

This is the take ...

The Lakers will pay him whatever he wants ... It will be a blank check ...

He will try it at the NBA level ...

If he hates it ... Back to college and Kansas will probably be open ...

To be very honest ... This is the exact thing I got told by someone VERY close to Hurley ...

I'd love Shaheen Holloway to get the UCONN job. He has strong connections to Seton Hall, but one can't deny UCONN is a step up. Like Hurley, Holloway is a Newark area kid out of one of their Catholic high schools. Does he have enough of a coaching record to be on UCONN's shortlist?

Won't matter in the short term with UConn's AHC likely being the replacement if Hurley leaves.

The general point was right, but if I remember correctly Kruger's Atlanta contract was 4 years for a total of $10 million, or $2.5M/year.

The reason I'll always remember this was because my dad said at the time Lon Kruger had 10 million and 1 reasons to take the Hawks job, and the "1" was he wouldn't have to recruit against Fat Pat Kennedy and his cheating minions at DePaul.

Then I hope he loves NBA and never comes back.

I'm ready for Kansas to not be good at basketball so I am hoping Hurley never ends up there.

You'll have to tide yourself over hoping that Mark Pope is the second coming of Tubby Smith or Billy Gillispie.

If I had to pick one, I'd rather Kentucky be mediocre than Kansas.

Tubby Smith coached 10 years and won it all once, had 5 SEC titles and won 76% of his games. I will hope Pope is more Billy Gillispie.
Yes, apparently my memory is a bit fuzzy.

Good call...pretty sure it was for five years though. But a million here a million there and pretty soon we're talking real money. Wonder if he ever achieved that after returning to college...

I guess it’s a case of whether she prefers the East Coast or oodles and oodles more moola.

I’ve said it many, many times on here … Andrea wants to be on the East Coast … She’s not an LA girl …

Danny wants the Knicks job … Always has … Told me numerous times it’s the only job he’d leave for …

You don’t make the announcement at UCONN and hold a huge press conference just to announce that you’re leaving … They’ve kept the decision really private but I’ll be SHOCKED if he’s leaving for the Lakers …

As a Bama/Illini fan I hope he stays at UConn because I want to beat them this year and I think Bama has a very good shot to dethrone them. Maybe, Illinois also depending on if they get Riley.
