It would be the greatest troll in all of B1G basketball if JW somehow got Stevens after he said he has no interest in coaching IU. :ROFLMAO:
Can someone convince the Barstool Illini account just to put a fake statement out? For entertainment value only, it would be fun to watch the IU fan base lose its collective minds, even if for a short time. :)

The overall collapse was truly epic. It’s hard to look that bad in all phases of the game all in one night.

There was one Illini player on the floor who didn’t quit. If you watched the game you should know who that was. Even when the game was hopelessly out of reach he continued to play with heart.

If that had been the last game of the season... the fallout from that debacle would be earthshaking right now. But the fact that two tournaments still remain leaves room for some redemption.

It’s the ‘not caring’ that seems the most troubling. Except for that one Illini... no one seemed to care about the embarrassment taking place. Where was the fight in these guys? Where was the team Alpha (still missing) to kick some rears to get them to show some life? What was being said in the huddle – and NOT being said that should have?

The best of the Blue Bloods never look like the Illini did on that sad New York City night.

There’s no embarrassment to losing a game. But there’s plenty of that in the way the Illini looked from beginning to end. The Illini looked like a collection of individuals without collective purpose or direction -- all looking for the Exit sign.

And if it’s time for a change... let’s hope a Bulls-style Phil Jackson-program elevating-person is out there somewhere – even if it’s a surprise name that no one is thinking about right now.

Coached by a very good Altman. Coaching and preparation matter.
And that is my great concern. When teams have ample time to prepare for Underwood's teams, we tend to struggle considerably (i.e., NCAA tourney). I think the last tournament run has greatly masked how much the Illini seem undercoached/prepared (and slow to adapt) in the big games down the stretch.

They have a big donor that made his money in bull semen
I have many questions, but I'm assuming just about all of them would get me banned from this board. :ROFLMAO:

The thought that K-State might want to poach Brad is probably not realistic, but very interesting. Even great relationships can sour or wear out for one reason or another, sometimes not anyone’s fault. This could be a win/win if it happens.

Even great coaches occasionally can have a bad season. What concerns me is not that we have been losing lately, but how we have been doing it, and the signs that it was coming: player and staff departures, nepotism, stubbornness, game prep and substitution issues. None of this is new. It just seems that some of these festering problems have all erupted at once.

Winning vs Iowa, getting into the tournament, and winning a game there might calm down this thread, but it will not make the long standing issues go away. I am fully aware that social media tends to magnify both good and bad results. Winning 2 of the next 3 and making a good run in the Big10 tourney will revive final 4 talk, while losing out will cause many more to claim the world is ending. Either way, I think a change now, especially if not initiated by the University, might be best for everybody.

O aside adding TA back into this current staff would not necessarily raise the bar on Xs and Os... if that is a common thought I strongly oppose that.

TA/O are similar in the mold that they are elite talent recruiters who have deep running relationships that generate in higher ceiling talent acquisition. Thats NOT to say they do not individually contribute to the growth/development of an individual player skill/positioning as the recruits they have brought in for the most part have all gotten better in the program.

What I/many on this message board have observed is the lack of strategy/adjustments in both the macro and micro levels of the game. Look no further than the steep regression to (and beyond) the mean for the offense and the defense as conference play/competition has ramped up. That is due to actual coaching, Xs and Os to supplement the talent of the Jimmy's and the Joe's THAT is what is sorely missing along with player leadership on this team.

I would argue losing Chester (and Stephen Gentry years ago) hurt this team significantly more than losing a top recruiter like TA. Chester while a good recruiter was critical in the strategic development of the defenses architecture and execution...

Im sorry but no disrespect to Hamer and TU but the strong regressions are more likely if not directly tied to those two being elevated and taking more responsibility of the scheme and execution. Neither should have any directly responsible to "coordinating" other than meals and transportation.

TLDR - TA being back does not make this team better, Chester was a bigger loss, TU and Hamer need to be demoted or off staff next year to actually elevate this team to being 2nd weekend and beyond good.
Losing TA could certainly make next year's roster worse if it means losing a couple of specific guys from this year's roster. I agree with regards to Chester leaving and the impact that's had on our defense in all respects.

Is Illinois or Indiana the better job at this point? How many jobs are better than Illinois in the Big Ten?
That’s a tough question because it really depends on what a coach is looking for …

I can put them in tiers …

Tier 1A:
Illinois
Indiana
MSU

Tier 1B:
Michigan
Oregon
UCLA

Tier 2:
Purdue
Wisco
Maryland
Ohio State
USC

Tier 3:
Iowa
Rutgers
Nebraska

Tier 4:
Penn State
Washington
Northwestern
Minnesota

Should have clarified I am.assuming that hopefully Geoff either gets a head coaching gig and /or follows Brad to where ever

Even then, talk of F4 is completely gone. You might hear some second weekend talk, but I really can't envision a scenario where any mention like that happens. The last 3 games have killed any sense of optimism...historic losses will do that.

Is Washington really that bad of a job? I don't have any specific reason to think so, but thought they'd have been at least in Tier 3 if not Tier 2. Good school with a large enrollment and good alumni base, flagship school of decently populous state. Is it just the lack of historic success or is there something else?

Negative Hater Gritty sees the BU quitters in this thread and will make a note of this next time he's being yelled at in portal season for doubting "Ben Humrichous is an NBA player and will replace Marcus Domask's role"-type punditry.

The players sure found it funny and it even got put in a group chat based off what I was told from parents/agents …

If the players don’t respect you … 🤷🏻‍♂️
It's got bench player that gets in at the end of blowouts wearing a headband and shooting sleeve vibes. Fireable offense for a team that preaches Pizza Hut parking lot toughness.

Lol The Pitchfork Crew are the same people who said Podz couldn’t cut it in the B10 while he was starting for the Golden State Warriors. Just bootlicking an unhinged, super sensitive “insider:
I actually enjoy both sides of the insiders. think were getting folks who are really close to the staff and have loyalties, and others who are really connected to the donors and the college hoops world as whole.

Who tried recruiting Podz when he left? If people knew what he would turn into, he wouldn't have ended up at Santa Clara. I'm not a huge fan of keeping BU, but hard to hold this against him. Kudos to Podz though, he felt passed over and busted his butt to become a really good player.
