TA will not be coaching again at Illinois … Don’t see it happening …

I also never said Brad was going to Texas and taking O … I said Texas wanted Brad and they do …

If Terry didn’t have a good tourney run … Brad was their top choice last go around …

With another good March run … Brad’s agent might be able to get him a Texas sized offer to go down there …

No debate that Tyler knows ball …

I think that he should’ve gotten his start being an Assistant Coach elsewhere … Director of Scouting or whatever the previous title was ? I was fine with that …

I wanted Brad to let Tyler go learn something outside of his watch and then if he developed and grew as an Assistant Coach and proved it … Then bring him in for a couple years and coach together before Brad retired … I don’t think anyone would’ve had a problem with that …

I think a lot of people’s main problem is Brad simply handed Tyler the reins as soon as he stopped playing …
He knows ball, of which there’s no debate? Yet others aren’t happy he got the job? If it can’t be debated that the guy knows his stuff yet others are upset he was given the job, that sounds like an others problem. 🤔

But does he really really really know ball.

You can know ball and not be ready to be an assistant coach / offensive coordinator at an elite level program as soon as you graduate college …

I’m not saying the kid is a basketball savant, but… if Brad recognized early that he had someone special within arms reach, it’d be foolish to let someone else benefit from it. If you have a goose that lays a golden egg, you don’t send it away in hopes the eggs will one day become more golden.

Of course, we can reasonably debate whether Tyler is really all that special, but so far his offenses have been highly efficient.

I’d love to hear that list of 7-8 coaches that would realistically take it …

McCasland isn’t leaving Tech based on what I’ve been told and that’s everyone’s #1 …
You gotta ask @poor dirt farmer , but he's pretty confident there are 7-8 guys who will be available that are clearly better than BU so... take that for what it's worth

Sure. But I’d take Brad’s last 6 over Sean’s in a heartbeat. If Sean brought that kind of ball here, he wouldn’t last 3 years.

The criticism of Brad is that he hasn’t made the final four. Neither has Sean. Over the past couple of years, Sean struggles to even make the tournament.

Replacing a guy who made the E8 last year with a guy who didn’t even make the tournament last year would be an interesting choice.
This post should be pinned to the top of this board. LOL

Would other schools that are interested in Brad allow Tyler to come with him? I would think that is a good bargaining tool to keep him around.

Of course they will. If they want him they know he hired his son, and they're OK with it. I highly doubt anyone willing to pay him more than we already do (which is a lot!) is going to consider that a deal-breaker.

The son that helped craft the #1 offensive efficiency last year on an E8 team, then replaced 92% of those minutes on a brand new team that’s played 45% of its games without at least one starter and still has the #14 offensive efficiency? Yeah, I don’t think they’ll mind if he tags along.

Coaching Carousel Updates … It’s been requested that I provide an update on likely openings and dominoes … If I have listed them as likely opening, it’s not a 100% guarantee … But it’s definitely more likely than not … Dominoes are simply schools who will have other programs coming after their coaches …

I think I covered anything … Any specific questions or if you want to know the coaches certain schools are after … Just ask …

Wasn't bagging on Tyler at all here, I am a big believer in Tyler. Just was curious what other schools thought and trying to convince myself Brad will stay.

Is Mark Few on retirement watch yet? And when he does go, do they have someone ready to take his place and keep things rolling?

Leadership is lot more than being technically proficient. Also experiencing multiple styles and methodologies provides depth and perspective which can help you adapt.

I've managed a lot is software and hardware engineers who can create something masterful and impressive but couldn't communicate what they did to anyone outside of their team that didn't make people's eyes bleed

As great as Tyler’s offense is, all we need to do is get him a defensive coach and a couple recruiters and we can make him head coach! He does know ball. Jk

Big 12 Dominoes:
Iowa State
WVU
Texas Tech
These three are the most intriguing for me . . .

1) Is there a specific program that would make Otzelberger really consider leaving Ames? He seems like such a great fit at Iowa State, and I can't see too many programs that would really be that enticing for him. For example, if Kentucky would have reached out for him last year would he have even picked up the phone?
2) If it came down to Forbes or DeVries for Iowa, who do you think Iowa would chase first?
3) Given DeVries' ties to Iowa with his brother, would he entertain Iowa State or Iowa first if everything was equal and they were both open?
4) Based on other posts here, it seems like McCasland has no real interest in leaving Texas Tech. Outside of a boatload of money (and I obviously know that's always going to be reasons, 1, 1A, 1B, etc.), is there really anything else that would keep him in Lubbock? When you look at Lubbock on a map, it just feels like it's in the middle of absolutely nowhere. I had a buddy who had to go to Lubbock for a few days several years ago, and he said it was one of the most depressing places he's ever seen. I get that Champaign-Urbana isn't exactly a booming metropolis, but based on what my friend said it would seem really tough to keep someone happy there (well, except for a boatload of money :D ).
