The carousel just got moving too fast for me to keep up with a conflict last night. Are Villanova and NC State the highest profile “officially open” positions at the present time (7:30 AM 3/26)?
Will Wade signed with NC State.

I think it's just Nova.

I forgot about West Virginia. I believe that one's still open unless there's something I missed. I didn't know if Wade had made things official with NC State or not.

Seems like he could have done better than that. Penn hasn’t been relevant in basketball for quite some time, even if those stretches were pretty good. Does he have any connections / history there? Maybe just wants a lower pressure job?

Edit: I see he is a Wharton grad, and played there. Still seems an odd choice.
I don't think it's an odd choice at all. He's a Philly guy and doesn't need the money. The Ivy League would seem to provide a good player profile for the type of offense he likes to run, and I don't see as big of a chance to deal with the talent gaps that he faced in the Big Ten since the Ivy League schools all recruit similar types of players and (I believe) don't even have official athletic scholarships.

Seems like that would be a good fit for him if he just wants to coach somewhere that he would enjoy.

I get the money thing. I just always saw him as an ultra competitive guy. Maybe at 65 he’s content to just coach basketball on a more level playing field as you say (until the tournament anyways).

How does that make it not temporary? I meant assuming that Rick doesn't also move.
That makes sense, I wasn't considering him staying as an option. Just thought it was funny two Big East fanbases for a time both thought they got their guy.

I don't understand why Chet hasn't been handed that opening yet. Was he not the associate head coach there?
Because he has never been a head coach and isn't going to be given a high major job as his first job.

I mean, no. They hired him to be the associate head coach, after all. That's about as close to head-coach-in-waiting a title as it gets.
This is just a title for more assistant coach money. Has nothing to do with head coach in waiting.

Imagine having to deal with Francon and not even getting a scholarship (and i'm assuming meaningful, if any, NIL out of it). That's what i call love of the game.

Ultra competitive? He can compete to win the Ivy League, and if he wins the Ivy League he goes to The Tournament. And since he's Fran, he believes he can attract players to play for him, and play well enough to the round of 32. And maybe if he's lucky and the ball bounces right, he's Sweet Sixteen.

Penn did have to give him something to make the move worthwhile, so call it the Fran Challenge. Take that, Iowa.

Here's the Fran story according to wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran_McCaffery

Honestly I feel like Fran's players probably enjoyed playing for him and he to compete in the Ivy league. His biggest issue at Iowa was always their lack of athleticism which won't be an issue.

I don't see why Fran can't compete with Yale or Princeton.

Gotta think Willard for Nova, no? That jobs been open too long for a coach who isn’t still coaching to take it.

I for one would be very happy.

Thanks, I had no idea. Just thought a differentiator would be good between his Iowa days and his Penn days.
I think FranCon just rolls off the tongue a lot better, and since the meter is for a person it makes sense to keep the name.

People don't change that much. Exhibit A - Bruce Pearl and his litany of show-causes and FBI investigations.
