Pearl, Bennett, Wright, Larranaga.

All bums who abandoned their schools last minute and will have TV broadcasting careers lambasting college kids for not "upholding their commitments".
Calling Jay Wright and Tony Bennett bums is a horrendous take. Larranaga is ancient at this point. Not sure you can blame him for retiring.

Did not like the timing of Bennett's retirement but he was doing his friend a favor and giving him a shot. He got his shot and now he's out. Bennett lost some shine from his brand but far from a bum

Bennett never faked a recording or lied to the NCAA to attempt to ruin an 18 year old’s career or an opposition program. Advantage Bennett.

If BU did what Bennett did so that OA could be head coach for a season, and OA turned around and led a talented team to a terrible 15-17 season you'd be livid, and rightfully so. Bennett was at Virginia for 15 years and his last act was to screw over the Athletic Department, the players, and the fans. If that's not bum behavior, I don't know what is.

Did he or did he not get Virginia a national championship? He gets a reprieve and we dealt with much worse than 15-17 seasons in the 2010s so I would gladly take that if it meant getting a national championship for Illini nation.

Bennett was otherwise a class act. Did I not say I didn't like the timing of his retirement? But to call a guy a bum who won a national championship for a school is a hot take that is also a bum take

So it's a "horrendous" take that you mostly agree with, but are here to argue about word choice for ~~reasons~~? Cool.

Bennet coached a championship team and retired in absolute bum fashion. It's possible for someone to have a great career and their behavior(s) at the end influence people's opinions of them.

I am pretty sure that's exactly what I said. There's no argument to be had here. He's not a bum. He could've done things differently is the right thing to say

Maybe Deon Thomas can go down to Alabama and make a few speeches addressing Pearl’s scumbag shortcomings. Considering Thomas has not forgiven him (at least that is what I think I heard somewhere), he might feel obligated to do so.

I am not disputing what you state here, but I read yesterday in another chat group that he had forgiven Pearl. However, in my view that is irrelevant, because Pearl damaged the University and the BB program as a lowly assistant at Iowa. And future behavior by Pearl shows the despicable type of individual that he was and is. Pearl will be the perfect political candidate for those Confederates in Alabama.

I just made the argument and so have multiple others on here. So you either can't read and are guessing at my responses (impressive) or just trolling for attention (less impressive).

Either way, I do not care enough about a retired basketball coach for Virginia to continue debating whatever the heck it is you're doing here. The ignore button remains the undefeated best feature on this website.

No attention seeking from this end. Just calling it like it is. Excellent coach, appears to be a good human being, but made a questionable grimy move to end his career that puts a slight stain on his name He's not a bum though and neither is Jay Wright and neither is Jim Larranaga

Satan, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Wow, Auburn giving Bruce Jr a 5 year deal. Never coached anywhere except under his Dad (hmmm.....seems to hit close to home).

Auburn must have $$ coming out of their 🍑 to take that risk.
Echoes of Pat Knight…I hope. (I have no reason to think it wouldn’t be either…)

Yeah there’s not lot of examples but generally sons aren’t as good as the fathers. The exception being Tony Bennett was better than Dick Bennett.

Bob Knight > Pat Knight
Rick Pitino > Richard Pitino
Lon Kruger > Kevin Kruger

Am I missing anyone recent or famous?

Even just assistants inheriting major programs is spotty.

Scheyer worked out.
I think Hubert Davis has been mostly a failure
Kyle Neptune was a gigantic failure

Best Bruce da Dog moment....His denial of having a recruit on campus, then pictures showed up of both shaking hands. Got him bopped outta Tennessee.
