With North Carolina & Kansas?? jobs opening up. I hoping all the "Fire Brad" fans keep quiet. Let's just watch and enjoy the ride.

It's been a nice run during Brad's tenure. Ugly a couple years, to competitive, to in the dance, to a top 10'ish program, to a ........

Alright here’s what I’ve got tonight … And it’s a LOT … Indy bomb … Lol …

I think there’s a very real chance that UNC, Duke, Kansas, Michigan, Arizona, and Alabama all open this cycle …

LSU will be Wade … So NC State will also be open and should attract good candidates as well …
Would love for dusty to leave the big ten. Please

I get everyone’s career ambitions are their own, but I don’t see the intrigue for the Bulls job if I’m Scheyer. Over the past 15 years Bulls ownership has shown itself committed only to never paying the luxury tax. Taking the bulls coaching or GM job at this point means being mired in mediocrity until ownership changes (guessing when Jerry passes?) at which point new ownership probably wants to start fresh with their own people.

Presumably Duke will give him a little more rope as a legacy than a typical coaching hire, particularly if Duke continues to hum along. And if they continue to provide the resources to get a top 3 pick every year and supplement with key role players from the portal (I do think Scheyer deserves credit for the way he builds a roster, the fact that he has by far the biggest bag notwithstanding), I see no reason why they shouldn’t hum along at or near their current level of winning.

You want to follow the Stevens path? Keep building super teams year after year at Duke. Better opportunities than the Bulls will open up.

>>> If you are Todd Golden (Florida), Dusty May (Michigan) or Tommy Lloyd (Arizona), do you leave places where you are already fielding title-contending teams?
If -- and it's an if -- a North Carolina or a Kansas is a "better job" than what you have, is it still enough of an upgrade that it's worth leaving what you've built?
Once upon a time, the decision would have been quick and clear. Now, less so.

I put it on here about a month ago and I can say with confidence that Scheyer is very much interested in the Bulls …

He has seen the path Brad Stevens has taken and likes that …
Brad Stevens took a school most people had never heard of to a national title game. To prove it wasn’t a fluke, he did it again the next year.

What has Scheyer accomplished that would put him on a similar path? He took over a historically good program with no head coaching experience. They’ve won quite a few games (most of which they were favored in) and continue dominating the recruiting pipeline built by previous coaching staffs. Nothing he’s done is impressive

if/when Scheyer leaves, do they look at Jai Lucas to keep it in the family?

What makes Kansas such a better job than the other two? I get Michigan with football, but I’m curious why Lloyd would want to leave Arizona. Outside of brand, I struggle to see why there would be that much of an advantage to be at Kansas in the modern era.
I also had this thought. I get the Kansas and UNC are the bluest of blue bloods. The allure of the top jobs will always be there. You got Kansas, Duke, UNC, and UK (iffy on this with how the Pope search went) that are true elite jobs. But with NIL and current resources, UM and Arizona would be the next step down of good jobs that probably isn't that big of a step down right now. We know that May and Lloyd can build elite programs where they are so what is in it for them to making another move?

Agreed, I’d be pretty surprised if they both left. Doesn’t make sense

Ultimate fumble for Butler to pass on Groce or Steele for a NBA assistant

Butler isn’t that great of a job … No chance to win the league … They have less resources than DePaul at this point … So you’re essentially taking the job to likely get fired in 4 or 5 years max …

I’d stay at Miami (OH) over Butler … I’d go to USF over Butler … I’d debate about staying at Akron over Butler …

There was a moment in time during Brad Stevens tenure that Butler and Gonzaga were more or less the same thing.

I don't think Gonzaga ever really had an offer to, say, join the (real) Pac 12, and knowing our stupid era of college sports they probably would have taken it if they had, but you can really see in retrospect the advantage they had remaining in a context they could dominate rather than trying to pretend they were something they weren't like Butler has.

Predictions:
- UNC lands Byington, but whispers out there are pointing to Billy Donovan. We'll see.
- Self retires. Kansas lures Oats from Bama. I can't see Otz or McCasland getting that gig. And I think they strike out on May and Lloyd.
- If Will Wade leaves for LSU, how 'bout Chris Collins to NCSU? Crazier things could happen, but it makes sense to get him back to the ACC. Would he take a job as a rival to Duke, though?
- Would Bama get someone like Bucky McMillan or aim much higher? I assume Schertz is a Midwest guy and not a good fit for Alabama.

With all these jobs potentially coming open I finally understand why Illini fans on Twitter love to complain about Brad and insist we can do better and that he's a choke artist and whatnot

Gotta build that moat. Don't want any of em comin for our boi

Rumor is NCst would be interested in Schertz

Yea I really, really believe this.

Kansas and UNC are not in the chosen conferences. We're in an era of college sports where you can pay anybody anything to play at your school, and your average BIG or SEC team is going to have more resources than a Big 12 or ACC school, and that's only going to get more pronounced moving forward.

I mean the hottest coach in college football likely could have landed whatever top job he wanted too and instead decided to stay put at INDIANA (and won a national championship at INDIANA, equally as absurd). Blue Blood doesn't mean much anymore - and eventually the donor funds won't be able to keep them competitive.
