I can think of an explanation. A major job is becoming available next year one state over. If he wins this year at Iowa, he is very likely their first choice. That job might be significantly more desirable to him.

/s Doesn’t matter how much he wants the Illinois job, I think Brad has it locked down for at least a couple more years.

is there even any valid debate that the Bulls are in the top 5 of most mismanaged NBA franchises ?

just pathetic
Without question.

Bringing in competent front office people would only solve their third biggest problem.

1. Ownership will not pay the luxury tax despite being a major market team that is always by nature going to be in the frame for big name big money players (small markets may not have huge money, but they are able to focus their resources on small market assets, the Bulls aren't)

2. The current asset sheet of players and future picks is an absolute nuclear wasteland

The Bulls aren't tanking or rebuilding, they just have nothing, the end result of AKME's failures.

You’re not kidding. That roster outside of Buzelis and Giddey is desolate. Maybe Esengue turns into a thing at some point, and it’s certainly not his fault that he got hurt, but it’s tough when you see so many other 19 year olds who were picked after him showing such promise. (Will Riley would look good in a Bulls uniform, just to pick one name at random.)

They only have their own first round picks. Maybe they’ll eventually get one from Portland (left over from the Markkanen trade, I believe), but not this year.

They traded Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, Demar Derozen. Ayo Dosunmu, Zach Levin, Nicola Vuvecic, and Coby White and only got the Esengue pick back as a future first round pick.

The problem is that they always made the trades when the trade values were nowhere close to optimized. Instead of picking a path (rebuild or go for it), they sought the path of mediocrity of having a good enough roster to compete for play-in game but nothing better. When they finally chose a path, the trade values were never going to bring a good return.

I feel bad for Donovan. He has been set up to fail, and he is a very good coach.

Pretty much when both Lloyd and May said no, UNC went full on panic mode. A mess from everything that is being reported cause it seems like leadership within UNC couldn't get on the same page about who they wanted.

the only explanation that makes sense of any of this , is that they have come into a formula that makes the most money for the owners ( Reinsdorfs & others ) They simply have no incentive to spend more and/or work harder.

they sell out , at high seat prices , and collect League distribution checks . Revenue inflows vs money outflows is maxed . They laugh all the way to the bank . It’s like owning the only Casino on an island of 500,000 gamblers

that school admin is worse than ours was in 2011.

He's no idiot. He's still gotta navigate a world without Stirtz and Iowa will be a lot more patient in that journey than UNC would.
I think he will succeed without Stirtz as he succeeded before Stirtz came into the picture at Northwest Missouri St or whatever school he coached. He has the intangibles of a successful coach no matter who is on his team

I believe they are in the top 3 with the Kings and forget the other franchise but I guess you could put the Wizards, the Pelicans, Nets or the Hornets in the same category from recent years/decades

1.) Good for him…to hell with Tobacco Road.
2.) Even though he’s an Iowan and a continued rival…I think on some level he became a personal hero.
I have to believe if North Carolina offered McCollum the job he would have taken it. Much higher ceiling. That was why Lute Olson left Iowa shortly after taking Iowa to the final four. Ben Mc will not turn down Kansas if it opens next year. But can he have success next year without his Drake/Iowa players who are graduating?

He's from Iowa. He's not Lute Olson.

Is it true that Norman Dale also turned down UNC?
Fred Hoiberg?

What is Michigan States plan once Tom Izzo retires? What are the chances they become like Syracuse? I feel like they don’t have great leadership and he is the whole program. Could be like UNC.
As I said a couple posts up, hire Mike Thomas.

Going to be honest. I don't think Malone is a bad get for UNC.

He won an NBA championship only 3 years ago and he runs a legitimately good offense that will work at the college level. Plus he has the recruiting pitch of being able to run an NBA offense that won a championship with Jokic and Murray recently.

This isnt a Bill Belichick situation where you're hiring a 70 year old. I think Malone is a better !!! than Donovan would have been and he's a better version of Kevin Young who got the BYU job.

Obviously, you want the Oats, Lloyd, or May type of guy but they are all at schools that can pony up a ton of money and have buyouts.
