Is Washington one of the ‘haves’? Sort of. A reason why the ‘haves’ will eventually want regulation as well. If the players want the money then they have to contractually obligate themselves to a team as well - just like what? The NFL? Yes. This is where we’ll end up. NFL lite with a veneer of college tradition.

Deon could do far worse at OC and could use the discipline and accountability that EB provides. Could also be a coach in waiting thing as we know Deon isn't going to be there after his kids leave.

People DID think Nagy was "brains" enough to hire as a HC. Same with Brad Childress, Pat Shurmur and Doug Pederson. But not Bieniemy. Must just be a coincidence.
Honestly, it's really weird the way NFL teams hire head coaches more like they're casting a role in a movie than actually analyzing what someone can do as a coach.
It's either "leader of men-type DC who relates to the players and looks like he could still strap on the shoulder pads and play linebacker out there" or "extremely young looking and vaguely dorky OC who seems like they do nothing but chug Red Bull and watch film all night"
And the funny thing is, while that almost entirely boils down to the former being black and the latter being white, Robert Saleh is Lebanese but has the right visual vibes for the former so he passes and Mike McDaniel is African-American but has the right visual vibes for the latter so he passes.
It's a shame the Lions blew it, it would have been fun to have Dan Campbell and Andy Reid out there holding it down for the "Bob Seger song protagonist" demographic.

Was this the other coach that could possibly leave? Remember we were told we could lose 2, but 1 did stay. here is the thing, we don't know if Bullen was a real good LB coach or not? He was here just 1 year, so the jury was still out on him. I think his recruiting was decent though and that does hurt. I'm kinda neutral on this.
NFL guys typically want to get back to the NFL. It is what it is.
Might be a tipping point for me.
Cue the eye roll emojis, the "Bret knows what he's doing", the "you want your coaches in demand, it shows you're a good program"...but this is an awful lot of outward movement in a short period of time. Right now it feels like the same old Illinois football stepping stone.
we need as much coaching chops as we can get on the defensive side of the ball. if we have to spend all fall with the defense from the last 13 minutes of the wisconsin game (no 4 or 88), i don't know that recruiting acumen is going to matter anymore.
