How many times was one of BB's teams ALSO in the top 10 vs Franklin's teams?
If we're going by ranking at the time of the game, 3 and he is 1-2. Both losses were in the Rose Bowl. Does that make him bad at winning the big game? 🤷‍♂️ His one win in that scenario was early in the season against a Nebraska team that ended up going 9-4 including a loss at home to Northwestern.🤔

In 2006 he also lost to a top-10 Michigan as an unranked team, but that ended up being his only loss and Wisconsin was top 10 by the end of the season. So does that count? 🤷‍♂️

Sometimes these kind of simple stats hide a lot of context, to the point where the stat is kind of meaningless.

At the time of the game seems okay.

I only bring it up, because Franklin has probably had more Top 10 vs Top 10 matchups while at Penn State than BB has had outside of his time at Wisconsin.

Schembechler was 2-8 rose bowls when it was the Grandaddy of Em All. People seem to think he’s something of a gold standard.

What would be a good record? Seems to me around .500 would be what to expect assuming you were also a true top 10 team at the time. Since teams aren’t always true too 10 teams, a sub .500 record would be the norm

Rumor of Belichek to Dallas. His buyout is ‘only’ $10 miiion and strangely drops to $1 million in June of this year.

Doesn't seem so strange given the circumstances. Speaking of which, I have to believe that programs are going to have to get smarter about buy-outs or get deeply hurt. 7-10 year contracts with huge guarantees seems much more dangerous in this era. It wasn't long ago that you built a champion with recruiting, developing and peaking over several seasons, with people getting itchy if you hadn't produced an upward trend after you had a chance to build it up. That cycle has reduced dramatically with NIL. Sanders turnaround is going to hurt a lot of coaches, because programs are going to think that's doable at theirs, and let's be honest, he's a unicorn.

Jones might have to drop his NIL donations to Arkansas to pay the buyout.

I don’t follow the nfl closely, but seems like 10M would be pretty doable in the nfl. Doesn’t even seem that high for college

fwiw : Finebaum’s take on Franklin

What Paul Finebaum sounds like to anyone who is not an SEC fanboy:

I mean the school isn't on the hook for anything if he never signs, just sucks for their hiring timing.

I'm sure they've already made payments to him as if he's already signed. The MOUs are becoming more prevalent in college sports so I wouldn't call this a warning sign. Sherrone didn't sign his contract until the middle of this season.

Bill Cubit, Tim Beckman, Ron Zook, and maybe even Ron Turner are all available though.
This is a pretty key problem. They fired the winningest coach in their program's history so they could make this hire, and if Belichick renegs on them they'll have missed out on the top available choices and will have to take their chances with what is left, or will have to be content with Belichick's son as HC which seems more and more to have been the plan all along from Belichick's camp (even if a year or two down the line).

And what's more, will those recruits and transfer portal additions who are coming for Belichick stick around? Even if it doesn't happen this cycle, how many recruits will be hesitant about committing to a program with a coach who has one foot out the door?

Well, with the crazy buyout number I heard I would definitely be concerned if I was an NC fan.

thats gonna pizz off Neon Deon , who is the only NFL HOF CB who made the Hall without ever recording a tackle in his career........

ok , I made that up , lol , but seems to me he didn't like to get pads deep into a RB or WR........kind of the ole matador D......Now he could get INT's and run back kickoff's and punts........

in fact he had 0 tackles in his first 5 seasons in Atlanta.

I'm guessing they finally used him on defense in year 6.

He did have tackles- they just didn't start keeping track of assisted vs solo tackles until 1994, so all tackles were put into the combined category. He actually had the most tackles of his career in 1992.

Ah, got it. I probably didn't scroll over far enough.

Seemed like Michigan left Sherrone Moore hanging. I was very impressed with his finish to the season with a depleted team. He's got a top-10 class coming in and the #1 QB.
