Is Thorne out of coaching right now? If I was Purdue or Northwestern I would definitely pick him up as an analyst.

He’s been out of coaching the last few years to watch his son play. He was the oc at western Michigan for 1 year then Lester left to coach at Iowa.

True, but the trend there seems to favor media-rights background more than AD experience for those jobs. Getting the media deal wrong can take the whole conference down the tubes, as we're seeing with the ACC. It seems like negotiating the next media deal is the single biggest responsibility any future conference commissioner...and that experience come from working directly in media.
OMG, things are about to get irretrievably broken. The Big 12 is bringing Venture Capital into college athletics. That isn't revenue, folks, its a loan exchanged for the right to screw every nickle out of your fans. If you attend Big12 sports, strap in!

It’s just a source of free money. They won’t require anything from fans in return.

But seriously, just don’t get too committed. Detach somewhat if the VC guys move in. Be ready to move on to other interests if the sport changes against your liking in terms of experience or cost, whether live or broadcast. We all have options.

The Bowling Green coach leaving makes me a little nervous. Although it doesn't appear they would be able to afford Lunney.
