Appreciate the heads up. That said, I absolutely don’t believe he will take another job. We will come close to offering whatever another school would offer, and he is set up nicely to become the greatest Illini coach in the last 75 years. He gets to keep a stable spot for his family, stay in his home state, and keep this thing rolling. If he leaves and gets fired again from the SEC, his legacy will be completely tarnished.

The reality of the matter is that all roads down south lead to him being fired, IMO.
Maybe he goes to Florida or LSU and finally has 25+ million in NIL and the best in state recruits you could ask for.
Best case scenario? Gets a raise and an NIL boost

LSU doesn't have an athletic director and has an interim president and yet is still considered in the top 3 for head coaching spot among this crazy coaching carousel. At the end of the day, it comes down to it still being LSU. Top NIL, top facilities, and the recruiting in its backyard.

You're right to have doubts about this report. Reinhart is not a serious account and no one else is reporting it. Maryland has a path to a bowl game (beat Rutgers and MSU) and there are a billion job openings that look better than your job. Plus, Maryland has a young QB with promise and one of the best 2026 prospects committed.

Great point. Anybody jumping onto the carousel for a huge bag at a school with huge expectations must accept the serious risk of being fired too. Risk and regard are proportional. Decide what kind of career and legacy you want before rolling the dice.
We are already sending a team out to all corners of the earth to procure the finest slab of marble known to man just to carve Bret's statue.
For reference, that is for making us bowl eligible 2 years in a row with the chance for back to back 10 win seasons for the first time ever.
Florida and LSU are ready to fire you for achieving any less than that. And you better have a Heisman finalist sprinkled in there, a road win in Tuscaloosa, playoff appearance every year...

SEC is one big giant mess. Have one bad season and you're on the hot seat. Start the next season slowly and you're already gone.

Nick Saban said years ago that the AD is the number one issue when taking a job.
There has to be chatter around coach B being a candidate for one of the roles. I would not be surprised to have his name mentioned. Not saying he would go, but if I were a GM and had to find a coach who has proven to build a program, sustain it the right way, bring revenue to a school, and maximize talent, Coach B is your guy

Brett has been fantastic here, but there a twofold dynamic why I don’t see Brett leaving.
1. I can’t big time SEC jobs taking a “risk” on Brett who struggled at Arkansas. We all know how great Brett has been, but I think an LSU or Florida fan base would have a meltdown if they hired Brett.
2. Why would Brett go to another school slightly above Illinois or at the same level where he’s going to get a much shorter leash? Money maybe, but at this point is the pathway for success at Illinois better where the foundation has been laid than another SEC school that fires there coach every three years?
