I think the more apt comparison is the Indiana is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Dead and rusting for years before an unheralded genius turns it into a sleek and shiny family motor car.

But wait… it floats on water? Didn’t see THAT coming. But oh well… that’s not all that impressive.

Oh crap! It FLIES too? How is that even possible? It’s was a rusty old hunk of junk not too long ago?

At the end, the rest of us can only hope that, like Chitty, it was all just a fantasmagorical story.

Solid GM and a DC that can do it all himself … It’ll work …

Kliff is elite on the trail and really good raising $$$ … And offensively he’s definitely elite …
Can I mention another name who could benefit from a strong GM, Dan Mullen. Mullen rather do offense and Florida he was a heterodox recruiter at best and at the end did not even do recruiting (well according to r/CFB).

I think he seems like the guy that DOESN’T go for the biggest job he can get. He coached for 40 years mostly at small schools and in obscurity. In fact, so me a P4 head coach who coached at lesser school longer than Cignetti.

In fact so much he seems to be against the “power schools”. Cignetti doesn’t want to win AT the power schools. He wants to win AGAINST the power schools. He’s a David. Not a Goliath.
+1

Remember Jordan's answer when asked about his vs. LeBron's legacy (in light of LeBron personally 'building' his teams in Miami and LA)...he said he'd rather beat the best than play with the best.

What you said makes total sense and it's clear why a team would be at a disadvantage for waiting.

Also, has a head coach taken a job while still playing for the college football playoffs/championship?

Maryland basketball right before March Madness was the most similar comp I could remember. Which is why I don't see it.
In the days before the CFP, coaches have taken new jobs while their team was preparing for a bowl game...

Can PSU afford to wait out the CFP to announce Cignetti in January? Hard to build a staff and complete for talent in the early signing period or transfer portal window in that scenario.

Meanwhile, Matt Rhule and the PSU AD are real tight from working together at Temple.
I think Rhule would be more of a lateral move, and besides - one of the knocks against Franklin was his inability to win the 'big ones'... Rhule also hasn't beaten the 'big ones'... so there's that..

I feel compelled to point out he is currently the head football coach at IU.

Yes, but it's only a clip on tie.

Didn't he have a significant hand in making them Hall of Fame players through his play, and their success on the court was aided by him?
That's how teams work generally. I'm sure Chris Bosh's HOF resume looks a lot better having those 2 Miami Heat titles on it than it would with no rings.

For the 2nd 3 he also had Kukoc.
And he not not draft nor personally trade for any of them. You keep avoiding the point.

I assume Jeff getting a cup of coffee with the Illini equates to LeBron ordering the drafting of Bronny too.

I don't understand the point of this comparison. Bronny hasn't helped LeBron win a championship. I don't love the way LeBron left Cleveland, but it's completely fine that he left. That front office was a joke. I think dragging that team full of nobodies to the NBA finals in '07 is probably the most impressive thing either Jordan or LeBron has done. Sure LeBron could have stayed in Cleveland and tried to do that over and over again but that would have been dumb. Jordan wouldn't have stuck around with the Bulls if the best player they could pair him with was Drew Gooden or Delonte West.

if pete gets fired by the raiders, Penn st should look into him. Pete can easily figure out how to get personnel, and will work non stop as long as he keeps taking his adderall and chewing his gum

It would only be for 3-5 years, but he could win immediately. they’ve been wanting to win for a while
Pete Carroll is a terrible fit for State College, PA.

If he wants one more bite at the college apple I would expects it’s on the West Coast.
