Mike White says hello. Bret's been excellent. White accomplished more.
I mean:

Mike White’s win % at Illinois: 0.533
Bret Bielema’s win % at Illinois: 0.569

Mike White’s bowl wins in 8 years: 0
Bret Bielema’s bowl wins in 4 years: 1

# of seasons with 8 or more wins:

Mike White: 1 (in 8 seasons)
Bret Bielema: 3 (in 5 seasons assuming we get there this year)

Granted, we play 12 games now, whereas they used to only play 11. But win percentage is still in Bret’s favor.

Mike White got us an undefeated Big Ten season, Big Ten Championship and Rose Bowl appearance. And five consecutive winning seasons.

White had a 40-26-2 record in the Big Ten; Bret is sitting at 20-21. Bret has bolstered his winning % a bit by beating up on non-Div 1A schools; White didn't.

Bret very well could surpass White by the time he's done here, but he ain't there yet.

Bret's win % is boosted a bit by playing non-Division IA schools and Sun Belt/MAC schools; White never played a non-Division IA school.

White teams sold out a higher-capacity Memorial Stadium over two dozen times; Bret has had five sellouts.

Bret very well could surpass White by the time he's done here, but he ain't there yet.

I love Bret; he is the right guy for our program now. He's brought stability, respectability, and the fan base back. The sky is the limit for us.

Mike White did some incredible things for us in a very different landscape. Mike White brought the excitement back to Illinois Football at the time, he sold me on what Illinois Football could be and how electric Memorial (Gies) Stadium could be.

Crazier things have happened

1. Lincoln Riley jumps from hot seat at USC to one of open jobs -
2. Brent Venables jumps from OK to get out of SEC to - Clemson ACC or Penn State B10
3. James Franklin in a fit of insanity accepts the FL job
4. Brian Kelly takes Penn State job to get out of SEC
I like #3 and #4.

Now flash forward 2 years. James Franklin fails at Florida. Brian Kelly fails miserably at Ped State. JMO

I get the chance for a Natty, ...but what currently successful coach sees this dysfunction and leaves a stable role without a similarly guaranteed contract as Kelly?

I also don't get what leverage LSU has on the buy out that they're 'negotiating' it still. Am I missing something or is this guy a blowhard?

I wonder if Wisconsin is starting to consider bringing Fickell back because of how far they would be down the pecking order right now.
I'm certainly no expert, but logic leads me to believe that if you're looking for a 'damn good' coach, you want to be near the top of any coaching destination list.... and with LSU, Fla., Ped. st., UCLA and many more, I don't think Wisky would be near that top this time around....

Being concerned about the defense is very reasonable. I hope that we are just experiencing unfortunate fatigue after losing three of our four hardest games this year. If we finish 8-4 or 9-3, I will still be extremely happy with the team's performance this year, and be optimistic for long term growth/success.
