He hired him but did not give him the inflated extension. Just hiring Jimbo isn't that crazy IMO.. he was bringing in top recruiting classes and did win alot of games. In one way, should a governor get involved? In another way, the current AD hired Kelly andd Jimbo Fisher at A&M.
I wonder if Cignetti would turn down $18M/year. His new contract is $11.6M/year
At some point Indiana cannot outbid PSU, Florida, LSU, USC
Why do you believe this? Do you think there's any amount of money that would make IU's boosters say "Too rich for my blood. I guess we're ok going back to functionally not having a football program?"I wonder if Cignetti would turn down $18M/year. His new contract is $11.6M/year
At some point Indiana cannot outbid PSU, Florida, LSU, USC
I get the chance for a Natty, ...but what currently successful coach sees this dysfunction and leaves a stable role without a similarly guaranteed contract as Kelly?
I also don't get what leverage LSU has on the buy out that they're 'negotiating' it still. Am I missing something or is this guy a blowhard?

I agree i think having such a late bye week didn't do us no favors.however this prevent defense just dont work with the lack of creativity no pass rush if Henry isn't replaced at the least I fully expect Bret to get more involved cause 40 points a game in big ten play isn't going to win us much if any games especially next season when we dont have Luke.Henry was a good db coach I just truly dont think hes DC material at this time I know we can do betterBeing concerned about the defense is very reasonable. I hope that we are just experiencing unfortunate fatigue after losing three of our four hardest games this year. If we finish 8-4 or 9-3, I will still be extremely happy with the team's performance this year, and be optimistic for long term growth/success.

Matt Rhule out of the running for Penn State coaching vacancy with reported contract extension at Nebraska
Matt Rhule has reportedly signed a contract extension that will keep him at Nebraska through at least 2030.www.cbsnews.com
Exactly. That posters on here believe Illinois is immune from crazy donor expectations is either cute or sad. Do I think Bret is in jeopardy of losing his job? No. But twice recently the Illini FB team has entered a season with pretty high expectations and not lived up to those expectations. To think that at some point Bret will need to get the program through the next step isn’t crazy. Donors (and fan bases) are fickle — especially when someone in your own neighborhood both geographically and recent “success” of program turns it around and is living up to big expectations this year. Would be naive to think people won’t start saying “why not us” at some point and look for answers. And we know what the next step is when that happens. The article is very premature, but I’m sure there are some donors wondering why we’re 13th in conference behind Northwestern and a UCLA team that has already fired its coach.i could believe the big-time donors of any power 4 school are looking at indiana and thinking "why not us?"
this probably goes double for sec and b1g schools. not saying it's right, but for people who can buy essentially anything, they think their money can buy a cfp spot.
We are all looking at Indiana and asking: "Why not us?" I'm sure the donors are too.Exactly. That posters on here believe Illinois is immune from crazy donor expectations is either cute or sad. To be clear, I don’t think Bret is or should be on the hot seat. Win next four and all (most?) will be forgiven, and we’re looking at two successful back to back seasons. Lose one of those, and things aren’t as rosy in the eyes of some. As ridiculous as it seems to me, at what point is Bret seen only as the guy who steadied the ship and built a solid foundation for success, and not the guy who can take program to the next step?
I absolutely see Riley pulling an Alford and taking a soft landing job. Not sure where, but I think he sees the writing on the wall at USC.Crazier things have happened
1. Lincoln Riley jumps from hot seat at USC to one of open jobs -
2. Brent Venables jumps from OK to get out of SEC to - Clemson ACC or Penn State B10
3. James Franklin in a fit of insanity accepts the FL job
4. Brian Kelly takes Penn State job to get out of SEC
I dunno. It seems like an irrational expectation to me. Even if everybody could make the Indiana leap, then nobody would stand out like Indiana. There’s simply not enough coaching talent, player talent, and luck to replicate the IU experience on any meaningful scale. A bidding war will not expand the limited talent pool. It only burns cash.We are all looking at Indiana and asking: "Why not us?" I'm sure the donors are too.
Would love to see Nebby lose 3 of its last 4 after the megadollar extension.![]()

Because of the sheer number of jobs on the market, I think a lot of coaches are going to get huge extensions this offseason, who otherwise would not have or would have gotten smaller ones.Would love to see Nebby lose 3 of its last 4 after the megadollar extension.
Barely beat MSU, NW and Maryland and get a huge raise.
LSU football is more important than all those things to the average voter in LA. It’s a shrewd political move
Or there is a cohort of people that acknowledge the expectations exist, but believe the chances of meeting the expectations are low, and therfore question the expectations and if they will be helpful. If there are 15 programs that have expectations right now based on Indiana most of them will be disappointed.Exactly. My nephew wants to be a football coach. My sister-in-law said absolutely not and that he needs to find another, more reputable profession. Then I showed her how most of the highest-paid State employees are football coaches and how much they make, and now she's like that Indianapolis Colts owner.Would love to see Nebby lose 3 of its last 4 after the megadollar extension.
