I've been vocal against him. Part of that is I believe there's evidence supporting that Hankwitz was a major part of his success and people are too quick to ignore the almost last half decade of his Northwestern run (when Hankwitz retired).

Ignoring those opinions, this is a bad outcome for Illinois. Michigan State has been a willing recruiter in the Chicagoland era since Dantonio. Fitzgerald has to be one of the most plugged-in coaches in the Chicagoland in CFB. It makes all the sense for that pairing to double-down on Chicago and the State of Illinois being a large part of their recruiting strategy. Therefore, I'm expecting a lot more battles between Michigan State and Illinois for the foreseeable future.
I'm interested to see how he hits the ground running there. I think Fitz is a good fit for them. Defense first attitude, B10 experience, and familiar recruiting grounds. As well, MSU has had major on and off field discipline issues over what seems like a decade, which is something that Fitz does seem to excel at eliminating [well so long as the team stays away from the shower room]. And MSU does have some talent up there, plus there's a number of Michigan families and recruits that just like us despise the Wolverines.

His name is tarnished a bit now but if has quick success there, and I do think he has the players to be a midtier B10 team with competent coaching, then the Northwestern issues will quickly go away and I could see MSU becoming a mid tier to 2nd tier B10 player. And they have a lot more resources than Northwestern did to sustain it.

Should be interesting.

Where do they go if they miss on both Sitaki and Daboer?

Only one man can save that program …

I don't follow football as much as basketball but where is all the Pitman talk coming from? His wiki page makes it sound like he and Bret parted on not great terms.

I wonder if Penn st has considered PJ Fleck....like him or hate him what hes done with minnesota has been pretty amazing. Hes got what, 7 bowl wins in a row? The roster this year isnt very good, somehow hes got them at 7-5. He might be cringe inducing, but he knows how to succeed....same with Matt Campbell, im shocked he hasnt gone anywhere yet.

They could do worse than the car sales man. Have to think Campbell has told his agent he isn't going anywhere and that's why he is no longer a candidate at every job.
