PSU’s next coach, only wrong answers:

Joe Paternoh!

We’ve already reached below the threshold of this hire of being viewed favorably (putting it mildly), here would be my options (in no order):

Napier (if Andy sticks around as OC and Billy lets Andy choose the scheme)
Kelly
Diaz
Key (if he says no, I would call Buster)
Baker
Dickert (my top choice)

Long shots but plausible:
Drinkwitz (pending new contract)
Dabo

The committee has specifically said it will don’t punish a team for losing a conference championship game. The is not an exaggeration, the SEC would not longer play in the CFP without changes if the SEC 2nd place team in not in the CFP.
I agree with what you are saying. The committee has stated that. However they also have the Tide as the 5th best team in the SEC. Bama stayed above ND so they will be safe. If they were 10th, they could have been bumped if BYU wins since the last two slots will go to the 4th and 5th best conference champions.

Right. I agree it’s a huge mess if BYU wins and that would undoubtedly lead to changes (larger tournament). Leaving out either 10-2 ND or 2nd place SEC team will cause problems.

I'm still thinking the most likely outcome of this is he gets a big fat extension from BYU. The guy is a BYU alum who has spent nearly his entire coaching career in the state of Utah and also happens to personally be a Mormon. If there was ever anyone who'd rather be at BYU than Penn St., I'd think he'd be that guy. That being, Penn St. seems to think he's serious, so who knows.

happy told you so GIF

Not the choice I'd make, but not the worst.

I'd just take a swing at every promising coordinator if it was me as a G5 school.

Agree with this. ND better be rooting hard for Texas Tech.

Big Ben thinks Mike Tomlin should take the Penn State job for a fresh start. Good hire for them?
I'm trying to imagine Mike Tomlin doing stuff like "FamILLy" and finessing convos with Moms, and doing the Penn State traditional down home-y stuff, and local sports radio in beer 'n wings joints, etc... and I'm having a hard time getting there.

Now, this is based on the view that NFL HC & CFB HC are *completely* different jobs... which may not be so true anymore with the direction things are heading in CFB.

But I think MT to PSU would be a mess in the "who does this aloof MFer think he is?" kinda way.
