Jim Leonhard will interview for the Cowboys DC position on Saturday, per report.

Word on the street is Leonhard is a favorite for the job. They want a guy that can be flexible with his scheme based on personnel and develop talent.
It's too bad we couldn't have gotten him as our DC for the year he had his hip surgery, it would have been fun to see

Would Leonhard want to step into that dysfunction in Dallas? That is one of the more unstable franchises when it comes to coach job security. Unless he think it'll springboard into something else.....

It would be his first Coordinator job in the NFL, so yes, I think he would want it. There is turnover with every franchise these days, if you are good you get poached to a HC job, if your defense is not good you get let go, it happens everywhere. If anything Jerry holds onto coaches too long and traditionally hires yes men that he knows will do what he wants.

i thought leonhard, or more importantly, leonhard's wife, loved the midwest and wanted to be near wisconsin. now he goes from denver to dallas? i guess money talks, but didn't he turn down past opportunities

With Leonhard the NFL coaching carousel just started so it is really early, heck if Denver loses their DC Leonhard might slide into that job.

With Dallas, Jerry of all people trusts his coaches input in the draft too much, see Taco Charlton who then DC Rod Maenilli pushed for and Luke Schoonmaker who Mike McCarthy wanted. So if the Cowboys hires Jim Leonhard and they draft a Michigan player too high, blame Leonhard.

FWIW....Leipold was the guy I wasn't thrilled by
In retrospect Leipold would have had like Chase Brown, Devon Witherspoon, Quan Martin, Johnny Newton etc running for the exit door as a bunch of MAC transfers came in.

We had no idea what we had in December 2020. I don't even think Bret did really, he couldn't have. But the extremely unconventional decision (only possible in that moment due to the weird Covid scholarship rules) to literally invite the entire team back under the new staff proved to be a masterstroke.

Everything about the culture that this program has built flows from that one initial brilliant choice.

I’m out of my depth on understanding football. But can an insider tell me why Henry would be back?

Bret alluded to even taking over more responsibilities there and that seems ominous. Is this a belief in Henry thing or a “not so many good available options” thing?
When I see how several coaches in the NFL lost responsibilities and were subsequently fired (example-John Morton at Detroit), it also surprised me that Henry lost some autonomy and apparently is being retained.

Generally speaking, at this level the head coach “becoming more involved” = the coordinator better have his resume updated.

I've given up hope on any changes to the staff. Looks like the whole roster is turning over on defense and that's what we're putting our faith in. HOWEVER...

Matt LaFleur's future is up in the air, which means so too is that of his staff including OL coach Luke Butkus.

That will be decided this week

Since it has been determined that last season's defensive problems were due to insufficient talent, what are the expectations next year for A. Henry and roster 2.0?

Idk man. Speaking as a Packer fan, o-Line was AWFUL this year. That’s not all on Butkus, but we were horrid in the trenches. To be fair, it’s probably a lot harder to succeed at the NFL level.

Job's a bit different in college though, there's also recruiting. I thought he was good when he was here.

Also, as a Packers fan...he's probably not available unless they move on from The Flower, which...hoo boy.

So frustrating that Bret has allowed his personal relationship with A Henry to affect this program. This is why you don’t hire friends.

I’d love to over a beer ask Bret what specific things A Henry has done to earn the job. Without a camera present
