Henry to nd was not on my bingo card , at all.....................it really really wasn't................
kinda surprised me

but it shouldn’t . they are really just an unaffiliated B1G team , when you get down to it

From the comment on Bart Miller being a better coach than Aaron Henry, it's a difficult comparison to quantify. That said, I would love to see any stat support this argument because the SP+/F+/PFF player grades are decidedly in Henry's favor.

Miller is a better fit for Tony Peterson’s offense. Regardless not many olines will look good when the center is getting blown up every play

I said he is a better position coach than Henry is a DC. Now is Henry a better position coach than Miller, possibly.

Any beat on a rb coach? We need another elite recruiter and one with ties to Florida imo. Henry was more than pretty good in Florida, no?
ST coach coming from in house?

Yes, that's the argument. O-line rankings and individuals player grades are decidedly worse for Miller than Henry's cumulative defensive ratings, year-over-year. It's likely too difficult to compare, but I haven't seen a compelling argument.

I agree with this and it's probably the most "positive" spin for Bart's o-line performance at Illinois, but it's a bad, future predictor for Illinois football.

Mark Stoops is an interesting one. He's created a lot of good, not great defenses. For those wanting opposite of Henry, he's not afraid to bring pressure.

Those are all very high level coaches who would be impressive hires, so please take this as a FWIW, "isn't this interesting" more than a criticism, but those guys were last defensive coordinators in 2016, 2016, 2012 and never, respectively.

How would you rank these four in regards to their recruiting chops?

Depends on how you want to view Bullen as Giants defensive coordinator for the second half this season. Also, shouldn't their involvement as a play caller be more important than when they last held the DC title?

That’s why the oc typically has a lot of say who the oline coach is.

Good point on Bullen I suppose.

I guess my reaction to that list in general is that it seems more like BB is looking for a partner to bring a new perspective into the program more so than a hired gun to do Aaron Henry's job better.

Based on current makeup of the staff Stoops or Wilcox make the most sense as they have DB backgrounds.
Wilcox also has a lot of experience coming in as the Mr. Fix It DC at major programs. And not that it really matters for our purposes but I do think his tenure at Cal was a bit underrated, that job has been a basket case across a number of domains and he really kept the ship afloat.

Covington was DC in New England last year on Mayo's staff.

Packer fan here - was thinking about Covington just this AM. Holdover that could be looking for his next role instead of staying on Gannon's staff in GB
