Just curious. How long do you all think it will take for the stink to fade from Gregg Marshall? Do you think he will ever coach college ball again? Seems IU has been more willing to keep volatile coaches than most, if they are winning...
Pitino had to go to Iona, and he has a HOF resume. Not exactly the same scenario, but I don't think a publicly funded high major program can deal with those optics.

Stevens is getting offered double what he's making with Celtics. Boosters are saying.... "We can make it happen."

that would put him in coach K territory. and top 5 in...college football. Better deliver quick or Tom Allen is not gonna be a happy guy.

I am not dialed in on Marquette basketball, but this seems premature to me.
He's only made the tourney twice in 6.5 seasons, never won the conference, never won a tourney game, and appears to be regressing as he's back down to below .500 this year.

all these mainly "east of Mississippi River" urban catholic schools (that dont play football) are feeling the pinch of not making any money in their athletic departments. Marquette is a better job than DePaul, they may have felt pressure to act . but neither school at all what they once were. same goes for that whole Big Priest conference, really

There has been noise that Porter Moser of Loyola Chicago is a potential candidate for multiple jobs, including Indiana and DePaul (which allegedly is keen on former Kentucky asst. Kenny Payne). Gotta imagine Moser checks a bunch of boxes for the Marquette opening.

Loyola starting 4 seniors today. Unless a few are coming back (not out of the question), this might be Moser's time to strike while the iron is hot.

There are an awful lot of butt hurt IU fans that think that Alford should have replaced Knight. He walks on water in Indiana. So the fans have come up with these wild and I mean wild conspiracies as to why he's not the coach. I have a friend whose as big of Alford supporter as there is and his theory is that Alford didn't get the job because they hired Davis because Jesse Jackson threatened to boycott the University. The minority hire excuse on Sampson doesn't surprise me. Heck they wanted Stevens way back then. Time for that fan base to look in the mirror long and hard.
There is still a big group that want Alford 20+ years later.
I agree that there are many who want Alford around here....but I have an office in New Castle so my view is kind of skewed. Living in the district Painter graduated folks here don't give a !!!! about Alford. Dyed in the wool whackadoodle IU fans may think that is an answer but most folks round here just want a coach that wins and graduates good character kids. State is divided between PU in hte north, IU in the south and a strong ND lean amongst the Catholics. Interspersed in Marion, Peru and all the places you have automotive plants (Connersville, Anderson, Muncie, Kokomo, etc) where you have all the UK fans from Ky/Tn that came north for work during the last century. We have a ton of 2nd and 3rd gen UK fans over here that hate IU with a passion. My circle of hoops peers which are mostly minority are definitely not avid Alford fans. Your friend sounds interesting, do you think he represents MOST IU fans or is he a small segment? I think he is in the "Vocal minority" personally. .

I still laugh at all the folks who told me my friend Chris Holtmann was not good enough to be the IU coach because "we are so much better than Butler". They are eerily similar to my Butler friends who told me when he was hired "he can't be any good he is from Gardner Webb"

Indiana is a funny place. We love our hoops and appreciate/know the game like no where else I have been, including a decade and a half in the city during the Ray Meyer, Lou Henson, Jerry Lynne, Digger era watching HS and college games with friends from Taft, Maine East and Shurz who could not understand why I would go to see a HS player at Proviso ......but for the life of me I can't figure out how I am the ONLY one who lives round my part of IN that is NOT an "expert with an opinion". Just try to keep my head down, listen, keep my mouth shut unless I know something and let the experts give opinions.

I am curious to see who IU hires. On the carousel there are more spots than GOOD candidates and a great job like IU needs a GREAT candidate. For league to be good all schools need great hires. This year was really strong in the BIG. Sad to see 2 of them go down already. Matt opened up Mackey for Izzo followin the BTTourney. Surprised Cronin's new look Bruins brought that Midwest/Cincy/Huggins streetfight mentality to beat Sparty.

Btownbanners breaking down over Stevens turning them down and calling himself a “masshole” and patriots fan in the process for emphasis.

I’m torn. On one hand a rising tide lifts all ships and that’s been a successful attitude for the conferences to adhere to in the past. On the other hand I think they’re one more failed coaching hire from irrelevance which would be gratifying to witness.

I have a relative and a colleague who are both grads and hardcore IU fans who have both adopted Illinois as their team for the tournament so, they aint all whack jobs. :) I hope they get a good coach and Underwood still beats them mercilessly for years to come.

There's nothing to be torn about, Indiana recruits itself and Stevens is an elite coach. They'd be very good for a very long time. We don't want him there.

I can imagine why their fan base isn’t taking those names seriously enough. How would either of those hires be an upgrade over Miller, not that that bar is set very high...?
I would like Travis Steele if I were in their shoes
