I'm trying to check my Illini bias here, but I would be surprised and disappointed if OA left for another assistant job, even at the greatest program of all time where he has worked before. I would assume (and hope) that this is at worst a ploy for higher pay, and I hope (and assume) that we will match the offer. OA, along with other staff members, SHOULD be head coaches someday, but I just do not see the point in moving to be an assistant at another program when you're already at a program in the shape that Illinois is in.

Is UK a "better job"? Sure, of course ... but he isn't on his first upward trajectory in his coaching career, and I do believe that Illinois (as a job if not a program) is in that Syracuse/Arizona/Michigan/etc. tier where you might technically be a worse job than the Blue Bloods, but you're good enough that a fat checkbook can keep coaches around. I never bought the BS talk of Illinois as a "stepping stone" job after Self left. We have lost coaches to two places in the modern era - the NBA and Kansas. KU was Self's dream job, and we've all heard the rumors that RG was offended and wouldn't open up the checkbook like I believe Whitman would. Kruger left for the NBA, and if that makes your job a "stepping stone job," then every single Blue Blood job is one, as well, as they have all lost coaches to the League.

As long as there isn't something that hasn't been brought to light and this is just business, I would think that a big ole fat check should keep OA on staff until he has a head coaching opportunity, and I certainly hope I am right. :)

Well said, I agree they should match any offer he gets as an assistant at another school.
My one disagreement is that I would have pause on hiring him as a head coach again. His first head coaching job was a massive dumpster fire.
