I think we see where all this is headed.

Players now firmly have their Portal in place. Next in line? Assistant coaches. All of them revert to one-year contracts with an option to walk at the end of the term. Head coaches? We want stability! Head coaches have to stay at least TWO years before entering the Head Coach Portal.

Finally, we get the Fan Portal. All ball fans get to change their loyalty after each year. The one rule is that you cannot return to the same team until you’ve switched to somebody else for at least a year.

Broadcasters? Sorry. We like the guys The Beloved have. They gotta stay where they are until We say so.

Basketball returning to its true roots. Head out to the court or blacktop. Just choose up sides and have at it. You stay out there until somebody beats you. Next rule change: You Make It You Take It.

Really, what’s going on the Big Ball World right now is a whole lot of fun...
Obviously this was sarcasm, but what I can't tell is if the underlying emotion is legit or not. Coaches already had basically complete freedom to move around whenever, i.e. we hired our head coach after only a year at another school..

(If the whole point of the post was sarcasm, then just ignore this post).

Who among us wouldn't accept a more prestigious job for more money? And even if we match the money, we can't make ourselves Kentucky. I hate the thought of possibly losing both, but I won't vilify anyone for leaving for a better job.
May not vilify them, but ask yourself if you would feel good about what you're doing if you're OA (assuming that he referred Chin) and all the negative ramifications that happen? I think this is different than just going back to your old team for more money, isn't it?

That’s fair, but if $2M is the bar (not to mention the UK prestige we can’t match), I think JW’s energy might be better spent lining up the right next guys.
I agree that the hopes of retaining OA appear to be slim to none. But keeping Chin on for at least one more year needs to be the line in the sand. The immediate and lingering effects of losing two assistant coaches at the same time far outweigh the monetary figures being mentioned right now.

Josh's actions over the next 24-48 hours will tell us a lot...
If there's nothing we can do to retain OA and/or Chin, then we need to damage control ASAP by poaching a top assistant from another program. Don't give anyone any time to feel bad for us or to start whispering that the program has been gutted. Need to inspire confidence in the current roster and incoming recruits. This is also the moment where Josh communicates loud and clear to BU whether he truly has his back and will do everything to ensure BU can be successful here for years to come.

Agreed. Just like AD's and their 'list' in case the coach starts failing..............gotta believe BU has the same type of list and since he's been doing this for such a long time if Chin is truly gone, he's already got a plan in place on who he's going to call...........if he hasn't already.

Hire Cardet's uncle and Bergeron. Two replacement coaches, two recruits.

Not sure why Kentucky didn't just come after BU... He is the one that hired these assistants & built this program in the first place
Why in the actual **** would you say something like that? Now you're just giving them ideas for when they fire Cal after next year.

You were probably being sarcastic, but BU does have a buyout in the range of $8-$10 million.

I hope OA and Chin realize this is a short term experiment for KY. If something doesn't happen like a final 4 appearance in the next 2 years they will find themselves in the game shoots and ladders sliding lower than from where they started from. Neither one would be handed the head coaching job if there would be a change at the top. This is high risk poker especially for Chin in my estimation.
