Athletic director Scott Dolson released a statement confirming Miller's firing, saying that "private philanthropic funding" paid for Miller's buyout, which was more than $10 million.

This cracked up me. When I think about philanthropic donations, I think about giving to charity, not about paying off Archie Miller's massive buyout, lol.

One thing is for sure, whoever they hire is going to want a lot of money.

Sounds totally deductible.... 😳

IU will have had their 6th HC (including DD) in basically the same timeframe that Purdue will have 1. Something is just not right with that program.
TC, it's the same expectations as a blue blood. Return us to the days of Bobby Knight or you're fired. It goes back to the AD and above not knowing how to assess a bball coach's talent. Compound the fact that IU football is good for the first time since Antwaan Randle El and Arch's buyout was done with all private funds. Bad news IU.....ask UCLA how they did after Wooden left.

I mean, he's been coaching for 42 years. Not that far fetched, despite KSU struggles.
I was not a Bruce Weber fan...but he did a good job at KSU. In 9 years had 5 really good years, 2 average years and these last 2 years, abysmal. Won 2 conference titles.

Maybe IU saw what Howard was able to do at Michigan and they've decided to reach out to Jalen Rose. ;)

Indiana alums have stepped up to the challenge and Archie Miller will be neither homeless nor hungry.

I will say that I never felt like Miller was a great choice. Didn't predict this level of failure, but I felt like the love affair was based on some splashy tourney appearances more than game to game, season to season performance. Glad we escaped that one. If Groce hadn't been so tight with him, who knows, we may have ended up with him.

"Miller’s buyout of $10,350,000 was the fifth highest in the Big Ten while he had the sixth-worst win-percentage in the conference. The four coaches with a larger buyout by April 1 were Nebraska’s Fred Hoiberg at $22,000,000, Rutgers’ Steve Pikiell at $16,100,000, Purdue’s Matt Painter with a $13,724,999 buyout and Ohio State’s Chris Holtmann at $11,571,310."

1. He's an Indiana guy.
2. He currently coaches at a "Football School."
3. He could demand an excellent salary.
4. Oh wait, I hate Indiana & don't care what the hell they do.
Scott Drew grew up in Northern Indiana. I have been up here since 2011. A VERY loose following to IU in these parts. Predominant affiliations here are ND, MSU, UM, Purdue. IU is way down the list. If Drew is interested, it's because of the $$$

Things sort of depend on what Indiana is looking for.
Brad Stevens is the white whale.
Steve Alford and Dane Fife will have their names come up. Not great choices IMO. But they are Indiana guys.
Thad Matta might be ready to return to coaching and has strong Midwestern ties.
Maybe Travis Steele
I don't think they can pry a big name away from someplace else like a Tony Bennett or Dana Altman.
Wanna get crazy? Go get Kelvin Sampson again.

Rick Pitino Sr hits the Blue Blood type! Would not put it past IU to go that route..

Not sure Matta's stock is very hot these days. Great guy, Hoopeston kid, but me thinks the crazy money is going after Stevens
He stepped down from OSU because of awful chronic back problems. It's a miracle he was able to coach his final seasons there. Unless he has made a dramatic recovery I'd be skeptical of him taking on a job like this. OTOH, I haven't read anything about him in 2-3 yrs.
