We await ‘The Deciding’ (‘The Decision’ was already used up a few years back, remember?) of which fortune of money will be accepted as the fates of major college basketball programs, the lives of numerous young and old men, the emotional well-being of millions of baller fans around the Nation, and the destinies of Head Coaches and the future salaries and lives of everyone involved all hang in the balance. Since the correlation between securing top talented recruits and The Recruiters seems to be the determining factor for the success and prominence of your future basketball program, you have to amortize the skyrocketing salaries of The Recruits against all of these resulting effects of the success and prominence of your program.

In other words... BACK UP THE TRUCK.

Good. That means we have the attention of top candidates.
Exactly. I hope we can keep the coaching team together because I think it is working great, but who knows what is happening behind the scenes. Maybe two new coaches would be even better.
At any rate, no coaching team stays the same for long anyway.

I’m sorry if I offended anybody was not my intention but I am a diehard Illini fan basketball and football and I get on here to try to learn and understand what is going on with those programs. I thought that’s what this site was for was to get useful information
Once in awhile

If two new coaches (who are presumably attainable) would be even better, wouldn't Kentucky at least have their pulse on whoever they are?

Yes, but like any industry, there's always going to be many qualified candidates. You usually lean towards the ones you have ties with and people in your circle can vouch for. Sometimes, this bias makes you miss out on people who would have been a better fit.

Better for us maybe, not necessarily better for KY or other teams.
Better ties to Ill players/HS coaches maybe,
better coaches for BU's system maybe,
Better chemistry with our remaining coaches maybe
HONEST maybe LOL (JK not saying OA or Chin are not), etc.
And I'm saying MAYBE as in glass half full maybe.

We didn't advertise an opening before hiring Smith. He was introduced as the new coach within 48 hours of Cubit's firing. There were five days between Smith's firing and Bielema's hiring.
I honestly don’t recall that far back if we posted the job before hand the official dismissal or not. I’ll take your word for it. It’s certainly interesting if that’s the case.

This Board has been all downhill since Kenny slam33 deserted us. 39 posts in his first 19 hours, never to be heard from again. As poet/philosopher Destiny Hope Cyrus once said, “You came in like a wrecking ball. Yeah, you just closed your eyes and swung.” Please come back, Kenny slam33. Please come back.

Couldn't have happened. Whitman fired Cubit on his first day on the job (Mar. 5, 2016).

He introduced Smith at a press conference on Mar. 7.

Back to the subject at ✋ be dumb 😡 like calimari or a legend and a Baller and roll with the Fly ILLINI PLAN...
Good to see you back! Only thing I can think of at this point is Whitman is having trouble locating giant floats for the parade when O and Chin are retained. I-L-L
