BOOM! Feed my ego.
I would be very surprised if we take two assistant coaches from the same school.

I don't understand how being powerless to prevent another program from raiding our staff makes us look good. It only reinforces a hierarchy in which programs like Kentucky (or Kansas) can steal our lunch on those rare occasions that our lunch looks good enough to steal. I know it's the reality of the situation, but I can't see how it reflects well on us.

If Kentucky poaches Antigua, fair enough. I think he's been working his way back up after his bed-pooping at South Florida.

If they also poach Chin...%#@& them!
Not disagreeing. Kentucky definitely comes out on top by stealing our lunch. But back in Guenther era, the response to this was to find people who wanted to be here long term (Bruce), so we didn’t have to deal with bigger fish coming after our guys. That was a dumb answer. The only hope here is that we continue to get excellent people and eventually we build a good enough track record with enough resources that were no longer easy to poach from.

Let's take a moment and think about Kentucky recruiting in general and years pass they end up getting a lot of groups of kids that everybody talks about potentially being one and done. But here at Illinois our last recruits has a glimpse of could have been developed to be one and done but mainly they are all work at progress 2 to 3 years then going to the NBA. The question you should think about and asking is Kentucky even thinking about taking our two to three year projects for their recruiting away from us. Is that the type of players they are looking for. Do they even fit their system and playing style that they are trying to put in place. There there is too many variables. We will have to see what's going play out in the next few weeks. Then see what next season brings with the new staff and team. At this point BU and JW has gotten a A putting this first staff together now they have her opportunity to get A second to keep the train moving forward. I will sit back and enjoy the orange and blue either direction will go hopefully continue forward

Losing one high profile assistant happens all the time, see MSU and Indiana.

But can anyone name me another instance of TWO assistants leaving one program for the same different program? No matter how you slice it, it makes us look bad (even amateurish) no matter how many leaks come out about how much we were willing to pay to have them stay.
I disagree completely. If anything, I think you could look at this as a blue blood wants what we have. Kentucky wants what Illinois has....I like that. I'd take that as a compliment to BU and JW. Is it disappointing we couldn't keep OA? Sure it is, but I am not in the camp that believes this makes IL look bad to potential recruits or possible candidates for the job/s.

I mean, I do too, but it's hard not to also see it -- a least a bit -- like the Marlins or Rockies developing good stuff but have little recourse to keep the Yankees from taking if it they want.

Not the same, they can pay them early and prevent that from happening. Like the Rockies did with Nolan. They decided to give him away.

What motivates people? Business studies have shown money is 5th in the list. For basketball here, could it be Underwood's personality versus Cal? Doesn't matter at practice or during games, but does Underwood yell at his assistants in the office during the day? I've been on both campuses (campii?) and although Chambana is nicer, it can be way too hot and cold. Do the wives have influence? They can't be ignored. And Kentuckians have a strong regional accent.

Is money fifth, or do people simply say money is fifth? Anyway, it's Kentucky. If Kentucky is offering you a job in college basketball, plus they're offering top compensation, you don't turn it down. It's not complicated.

Remember, also, that Antigua comes from loftier heights than our program. He comes from a world of Final Fours and top-ranked recruiting classes. We only had him because, like King Hamlet, he was condemned to roam the earth and burn off the sins of his misadventures at South Florida. His time in C-U was his purgatory. His excellent performance there atones for his sins, so he can return to his rightful setting.

Chin, not so much. If he dumps us, I'll be more upset.

Citation? Money may be 5th for motivation but is it for employment decisions? Would be surprised if seven-figure salary employment is well-represented in the data

Agree with your view on OA

Disagree with the view on Chin. He is upgrading, so why not? We all do it. (Aside: a post long back had alluded to some issues both have had at IL. No idea if true or what happened)

As it stands now, if Chin leaves, isn’t he leaving for a lesser role? A non-court role?

What Kentucky offers is visibility. They are on National Television as much as anyone, even when they aren't good. They also bring in BIG NAME players. Guys who go on to be All-Stars in the NBA. I guarantee when OA drops names like Anthony Davis, John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, Julius Randle, kids listen. We haven't had that kind of recruit in quite some time.
There is a lot of currency in who you coach or have coached. It raises your credibility in a recruiting battle and in a job interview.

The universal truth is all people are looking for people that make their job easier. You’re looking for great people you won’t have to work hard every few years.

What are the first four? I believe if the money amount is about the same there would be other considerations.
