Noblesville Illini

Nappanee, IN
Now that a former player is on staff, the Chicago connection is the only thing for folks to linger on anymore.
Us Illini fans? Have you seen this board?

The thing is it is a thing. People are lamenting the loss of oa and possibly chin and they lasted a lot longer than this hired gun
Look at OA's career before he gets to Kentucky. He didn't stay anywhere longer than 2 years (including his alma mater). Look at Chin's career before UI. He had four stops in a six year span. Lower down the coaching ladder it's not uncommon to be moving up faster, which means changing jobs frequently. Typically when you get to higher levels of the coaching ladder, that slows down.

College hoops coaching is like 3D chess, isn't it? Underwood lands Payne and eventually loses all his ACs. In the meantime, other transfer bigs become available and are interested in Illinois. At the same time, Florida's big-man coach expresses interest in joining the Illini. Underwood decides it's time to roll the dice and land this coach, knowing it could cause problems with Payne. But no worries! Other bigs *could* be on the way!

(Not saying this is likely, but it sure wouldn't shock me, either.)

Not going to lie, this honestly feels like an opportunity for BU. If we stay afloat with an entirely new staff, kudos to the man on top.
Not going to lie. This feels like a tragedy for uofi. If we stay afloat will everyone be happy if we do not stay above the water mark of tourney time

Losing 3 AC in the span of a few days is not ideal....but it's not the end of the program by any stretch....get the rest of the AC's hired asap and get on with summer work, recruiting and becoming familiar with each other....thinking we'll reel in a couple pretty good replacements to go with Chet and things will be fine come November

Man, really thought JW war chest would be more effective...no Young, can't get Mennenga.

I'm sure Alexander is promising but thought we could have poached a top level assistant.
Yeah, I think if this ends up being Pinkins, Frazier and Alexander, that's an ok, maybe even good staff. But I don't think it's the outstanding set of hires we were imagining when JW offered Antigua $1 million a yr for 4 years.

This year was all about keeping the recruits and commits. Our new assistants will recruit just fine IMHO.

Some red flags on Pinkins. Hope we get Young or Mennenga.
Good Lord, this offseason can't end soon enough. I thought Illinois was out on both Young and Mennenga. If that's true and Pinkins is a no-go, what other home-run hires are out there?

Which is why I said it'd be an ok, maybe good staff. The team will still compete. Frazier and Pinkins are promising recruiters, but not as accomplished as Mennenga and Young, yet. Alexander is kind of a question mark in that regard, as he's been in a non-recruiting role since he came over from Evansville. So, I don't think it's unfair to say that staff would fall short of the high expectations most had after hearing about the attempts to retain Antigua.

Also, FWIW, "just fine" isn't very comforting. We recruited "just fine" during Groce years. I'm optimistic on Frazier and Pinkins, and think they'll do better than "just fine," though I would prefer to also have a more established recruiter in order to capitalize on the current momentum.
