BOOM! Feed my ego.
If the top person on your list accepts, you aren't aiming high enough.

Yes. Sort of like applying to colleges. If you get into every one you applied for you did it wrong. Illinois is a great job but to think that every person offered the job is going to take it is silly. Especially if we are going for the best of the best.
I appreciate the optimism of your positive reframe, but hiring professionals at six-digit salaries isn't really anything at all like applying to colleges.

I don’t think it’s time to freak out though. This stuff takes time. We’ll find out sooner rather than later.

Obviously not, which I why I said “sort of like”. We have no idea if they are still at the top of their list or not either. Prying someone away from another job can take time. Offers, counteroffers time to make a decision. You seem have the glass as half empty, which is fine. I would argue BU has earned that the default position should be optimistic.

It’s possible that Creighton is trying to counteroffer and that may be what’s holding it up. Who knows.

Kentucky is one thing, but I would seriously hope that we are able to outbid Creighton (assuming, of course, that the value we ascribe to him warrants it).

Outbidding someone is different from a coach deciding whether or not to leave his alma mater. Also Creighton spends good money on basketball, even their recruit$

I betcha that the next hire is going to surprise some people. Someone that has been talked about but has been crossed off the list for some reason or someone that hasn’t been talked about before.

Hummus: “It is more of a move from a ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’ to ‘What Is and What Should Never Be’."

SO...

If the Illini get the AC(s) we really want...
‘We will skip the light fandango
And turn cartwheels 'cross the floor’

But should They miss on them...
‘We will feel kinda seasick
But The Crowd will call out for more’

NOW I finally understand what that song was talking about.

The post was reflective of BU's tone and language that he used during his postseason presser when stating that Illinois is a "Top-10 Program ... [and should act like one]". JW's approval of the short list and his resource allocation to acquire the names of said list supports this sentiment while tacitly recognizing the need to refine the AD's guidance toward operating in the grey areas of recruiting. It is time to move away from diluting the grey with excessive amounts of Titanium White ... cue "What Is and What Should Never Be".

Illinois has targeted several ace recruiters to fill the void left by OA and Chin, but there is no point in spending $2M+ on an elite staff if internal policies prevent the program from getting max value from of it. Illinois does not need to go "Will Wading" to attract talent as BU has a solid blueprint in place. The plan, while solid, may be improved by broadening the definition of "what is" and knowing "what should never be"; this may have already happened (not an insider)

That said, whether new staff is Huss + X (and possibly Y) or some other configuration to complement Chester (a home run, imo), it will likely have greater latitude to explore the grey areas of the recruiting trail than staffs / ACs have had in years. Allowing for this flexibility will arguably improve both the satisfaction and output of our ACs; it will increase our close rate while decreasing Spring scrambling to solidify a recruiting class; and it will hopefully contribute to the sustainability program's success / upward trend toward the "Top-10".

(Sorry for the lag and the lack of song breakdowns - no sleep + crazy day = yeah)

They're announcing Chester and introducing him to the press. There's not gonna be any announcements of other hires. That would take away from Chester's time in the limelight and would be a very amateurish move.
Not so sure that’s the reason though. That applies more to recruiting than for coaches, who should be wearing their big boy pants by now.

Sure, but the post to which I was replying was talking about counteroffers, not sentimental reasons for staying put.

Even though Chet is the only coach I've heard of....I guess I'll have to trust BU. We lose one/two three AC's plus a Mr. Basketball in Illinois....did anybody think: "Maybe the problem is...BU!? He's a WILDMAN on the sideline....maybe some have got sick of it?
