So if we get Irvin, does this mean we have the inside track for most MIF players? Seems like that's how it works for other schools no?
wait assistant to the head coach is a real position? I thought that was an Office joke
As nyc said, if getting Irvin onboard gives us the advantage in getting the '23 MIF players down here, do it and don't look back.I know people are talking about Nick Irvin being the next Assistant to the Head Coach. I personally would love to see an alum slotted in that position. What's Aaron Jordan doing these days? It also might be a good jumping-off position for James Augustine. Build and sustain the Illini culture.
Nothing but trouble and dramaYep, Nick Irvin is the Irvin some insiders are saying is going to fill Alexander's role. Yeah, he's currently an AC at WIU. He has huge ties to the MIF and the Chitown hoops scene.
By hiring Chin...Underwood mended those fences long ago. How do you think he got Ayo and Miller ?
Duly noted. Think I'm gonna go with Underwood's call here.Nothing but trouble and drama
Is this Costanza guy available? He looks tough and I heard he is the master of his domain. Could keep our New York recruiting ties in place.
I heard we’re gonna try out cotton uniforms this year. Very comfortable.
Sorry, but no way I make that trade unless we get at least 25 MIF players. As nyc said, if getting Irvin onboard gives us the advantage in getting the '23 MIF players down here, do it and don't look back.
I fail to see how promoting someone already here gets us access to his connections.Truly hoping Alexander is a big upgrade over Gentry. Alexander has lots of connections and experience. Might be the ace up BU's sleeve.
is Irvin a real option? I thought there were some hard feelings?
Failing to promote someone deserving can lead to losing access to said person's connections. Additionally, changing that person's title and responsibilities can lead to more effectively leveraging those relationships. Especially if recruiting was not necessarily a primary focus of that person's efforts.I fail to see how promoting someone already here gets us access to his connections.
Thought they had a little falling out with the Adam Miller situation and some things were said privately in a meeting but sounds like fences might have been mended especially if Nick can bring in some MIF kids and not take up an actual assistant spot.illini0440, just curious, you said previously "No Irvin will be hired as an assistant coach as long as BU is the head coach".
What would make the Assistant to the Head Coach position any different? It sounds like that would be an even closer working relationship.
By hiring Chin...
So are you saying that both parties could be open to that type of working relationship??Thought they had a little falling out with the Adam Miller situation and some things were said privately in a meeting but sounds like fences might have been mended especially if Nick can bring in some MIF kids and not take up an actual assistant spot.
Nick gets a nice salary, Brad doesn't actually have to listen or take any of Nicks coaching advice. Win-win lolSo are you saying that both parties could be open to that type of working relationship??
I think the $160k referenced was the head coaching position. Which means NI is making far less as an assistant. Probably no more than $50k or so. This would be a big raise.160k goes a long way in Macomb
And here is where Geoff comes in. Respected and liked throughout the state both with high school and AAU programs.Hiring an Irvin in any capacity won't help Illinois with Meanstreets. Underwood needs to hire someone that won't anger other AAU teams.
I'd rather have an in with one and make others mad than not have an in with anyHiring an Irvin in any capacity won't help Illinois with Meanstreets. Underwood needs to hire someone that won't anger other AAU teams.
Also hiring Nick cuts Chins legs out from under him.I'd rather have an in with one and make others mad than not have an in with any
