Barbee took the Central Michigan job, then Flint moved into his role. Justus left and wound up at ASU, don't know if he was shown the door or not...
UK is a actually selling this as a promotion for Flint. So I guess Alexander got demoted? /s

Lucas was likely effectively demoted too, as he had been the recruiting coordinator.

Curious as to why you feel Danny Manning is so great? Been around a long time, played in the league, was a great college player, but no current players would know him from playing in the league. I’m 40 and I barely do.
He was an important assistant under Self for many years. He has recruited McD AA. I would take him in a heartbeat. He is definitely a 9 because he checks so many boxes...maybe higher.

Coleman wasn't "in good" with Chicago coaches, he was in good with the Fire. If Coleman was an 8 in your estimation, why was he at UIC? And if you rate Antigua as a 9.5, why was he available when Underwood hired him? If he was so highly thought of, why didn't Cal bring him back to Kentucky? Why didn't another blue blood hire him? He brought in talent, but when I think of "incredible", I think of 5* and how many of those did he recruit to Illinois? Also, Underwood has been in the coaching business for about 35 years, so I think he knows something about good assistants and since he hired Frazier and Alexander, I'm good with them.

Indeed we did. A guy named Ayo. I think he was pretty good for us.
AO stunk as a headache coach, but is am awesome assistant coach. Manning was nothing short of exceptional as an assistant coach and recruiter. Like I said, we should be ecstatic if we got someone of his caliber.

Is a 30-80 ACC record at WF for Manning in 6 years bad??
I wouldn't hire him as head coach, but definitely would as assistant coach. I say "definitely", but let me say, I would do an extensive bit of research to insure "all was well" in his recruiting. If that checked out I'd hire him, based on results.

Don't say we. You aren't happy with the 2 assistants and you're entitled to your opinion. I think that both are going to be very good and will help Illinois in recruiting and teaching. If Underwood does bring in an assistant with the ability to recruit nationally, this will be a better staff than the last one.
I just listened to Piper and Warner talking about both Chet and the promotion of Alexander. They both spoke very highly of Alexander, and I'm certainly okay with giving him a chance. Not a splashy name, but sounds like a very good basketball man, and very likable. Sounds like Antigua gave him a thumbs up as well.

Say what you want about his head coaching career, I would take him as an assistant in a heartbeat as well!

There is a very fine line separating sane from insane and i love to straddle that line constantly......some think I am crazy , but history will bear fruit of my constant ramblings about first contact and it's wonderful effect on mankind.....

The Ancients are amused with the various calculations and thought process's of humans, but think we are worthy of contact soon....Logistics are a concern to the unveiling of the vast celestial bodies they will open up to us, but rest assured, it will be soon...

1) People were agitating at KY to re-hire Antigua when he became available years ago.
2) Five stars seem to go to winning programs. Last year was the first time since ~2006 that Illinois was seen as a winning program.
3) Brad's stated philosophy is to prefer 2-and-done or 3-and-done vs. 1-and-done. This may impact who the coaches recruit.

Disclaimer: I'm a huge fan on Antigua as an AC. His work at KY and IL was outstanding. I'm not sure how to interpret AO's head coaching stint. Being a head coach is a different job. Not every great AC will be a great head coach. Was this a fluke? A learning curve? Or is AO's skillset better suited to be an AC? I don't know.

Fans may have wanted him hired back at Kentucky, but Cal didn't do anything until 4 years later and Payne had left. And no other blue blood programs hired him. He's a good recruiter and I was pleased that Underwood hired him at Illinois and I wish he had stayed, but I don't think he's as great as many other fans do. I also think his recruiting at Kentucky was made easier by the extras that assistants can offer.

I question his recruiting ability. He pulled in 5* at KU, but so have other assistants that have worked there. If he was a 9 as a recruiter, he would have had better talent at Wake and still be the head coach. Most assistants can pull in 5* talent at KU with the extras they can offer. His recruiting ability will be put to the test at Maryland.
