Sad situation, Matta is in a wheelchair most of the d
Yeah, I had back pain for a couple of days and wouldn't wish that on anyone (except Pearl). I hear Matta is a good guy and glad he's able to coach again, albeit in a limited capacity.

He’s not a nice guy. I’ve known him since he was little. He’s an !!!!!!!. He wouldn’t even donate to his old HS for a mascot costume

I mean, as long as we are wishing stuff on Pearl.........throw in a plague, financial ruin, his house inhabited by: the clown from "IT" and Hellraiser, his dreams haunted by Freddy Krueger and Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up", genital warts, regular warts, losing in the first round of the NIT every year forever, bed bugs, his turkey catches fire in the oven every Thanksgiving, constant car trouble, hourly calls from Chinese scams, only 30 seconds of hot water every shower, dairy allergies, spotty hair loss, arthritis, brittle fingernails, a mini stroke that only affects the left side of his face, a dog that hates him and bites him, and head lice.

This is not a complete list.

Re: Sheyer being heir apparent, I guess he would have to be. All of K’s other pupils seem to have flamed out. Dawkins, Wojo, and Collins are all probably too tarnished for the job. According to 247 he’s been in on a lot of their 5 star gets, but will be interesting to see if he can still attract those type of recruits (ie if Nike is still willing to shovel money to direct kids to Duke s).

Still wonder if going to a one n done model 9-10 years ago or whatever it was was short sighted. Seemed to have coveted the Zions at the expense of the Scheyers. With more kids going Ignite route I wonder if one n done is sustainable in the future, and wonder if they can rebuild/recapture the culture that produced the Scheyers, Lee Melchionis, and other nameless super annoying but really effective college players who maybe aren’t prototypical nba players.

I’m now done wondering about Duke and bake to wondering who our third assistant will be.

Every time I'm scrolling through the guide and I notice that Bruce Pearl has a game on TV, I take a few minutes to watch it just in case that very moment happens to be when the universe pays him back with an unconcealably messy shart.

Would Collins be willing to leave NW if offered the Duke job?

I never looked at Antigua as a long term assistant for Illinois. To me, he was just a hired gun. Come in, bring some good recruits and leave. I thought he would go to Kansas, just because Self loves to stick it to Illinois or he would rehabilitate his rep and get another head coaching position. The move to Kentucky did surprise me, but it will be easier to bring some high level recruits to Lexington and then he can leverage that into another head coach job.
That's my thinking, always felt ACs start keeping their eyes open for a better job the minute they accepted a new one.

I know people use the 'LOL' abbreviation flippantly, as just a thing to put down, but I am literally laughing out loud right now.

Sounds like it's a done deal that Scheyer will be the next head coach. (link)
Don't mean to sound mean, but that's almost too good to be true from an Illini fan perspective. Don't wish the guy to fail because I don't dislike the guy, but Duke will more than likely go down like a cheap suit within 3 years. Duke needs to find the next Self, Bennett, etc. Oh wait, if Duke came a calling on Bill, would he be torn?

I know nothing about Scheyer as a coach (tho I assume he still makes that stupid face all the time) but I can't imagine that someone with his paper-thin resume would be handed a top-ten coaching job. He has, what, five years as an assistant under his belt?

If he gets it, seems like a total power play by Kryzewzadsfoiikhsldf to put his golden child in that seat, and I'd have a lot of trouble betting on it paying off. I can't even fathom the ego you'd need to think it was a good idea unless Scheyer's an absolute savant.

What ever happened to Capel? Didnt he start amazingly at OU pre-Kruger?

It's possible that K's ego is so large that on some level, he's hoping that his successor is a spectacular failure just to further gild the lily on his own greatness.

While I don't doubt his ego is enormous, one would think it's better to go out like a Rupp -- be remembered for your greatness on its own and for laying the foundation for a great program -- than to plant a bomb on your way out the door. Scheyer's failure would tarnish K's reputation too, since he anointed him (by all appearances). I've gotten the impression over the last few years that Scheyer didn't take a HC gig because he was in line as the coach-in-waiting -- I'm sure he was in high demand after multiple killer recruiting classes. Whether he can be successful on his own outside K's shadow will be very interesting to watch.
