I have no insight here but it seems like its going to be a guy from the NBA. We have people on here spouting we need a guy who knows recruiting. We hired a head coach who was suppose to be this great recruiter in Groce. He failed to land a lot of players and his coaching was terrible. Indiana hired a career pro guy in Woodson after hiring a guy who was suppose to be a great coach and recruiter. My point here is that all college players at this level knows how recruiting works, They were recruited by many assistants and coaches. It is not like they walk into a kids house not knowing what to say or do. We have two solid college recruiters on staff. Why not get a guy who knows and understands the pro game? Juwan Howard has no college coaching experience but it seemed to work for him at Michigan. He is grabbing top level talent. So why not a guy like a Brian Randle or any young up and coming coach who might want to get back on the college game? I am not saying BR would be my top choice but I would take a hard look at an NBA guy.
Juwan Howard also comes from the Ed Martin recruiting tree. Just sayin.

It seems that there continues to be an increase in HCs with primary connection to Chicago, with JS the most recent at Duke. Has to be the most competitive city in the country to recruit

Could be. Thing is, you recruit players, not the city.

I hope that Alexander can really help us get in with the major non-MIF programs. FWLIW, am expecting our relationship with those programs (e.g., Meanstreets, Wolves) to markedly improve over the near term.

Probably an advantage, given how the NCAA has rewarded that kind of recruiting. Certain coaches have players interests ahead of the NCAA's interests, and that seems to work out fine, as long as the NCAA protects its revenue stream. I don't see that ever getting fixed.

I think with the $18 mil tax increase to renovate the high school, Milford really envisioned itself as an Iroquois East but keeping the name. But that doesn't make a ton of sense with Watseka just 11 miles away. Iroquois County is kinda tough, its a big area but has such a small and declining population. I really only see it having 4-5 high schools in the near future.
I believe Watseka's HS enrollment is down to low 300ish. Was 480 40 years ago and over 500 in the early to mid 70's.

lol, my brood was in the Teletubbies sweet spot. I "watched" much more of that show than I'll ever admit. My wife made a Po costume for our youngest son for Halloween. Fortunately, he doesn't have any recollection. Back to high school memories.

I’m not a big fan of hiring an NBA guy, but then again I don’t have a vote that matters. But using Juwan Howard or Penny Hardaway as examples of why it can work seems kind of silly to me. Juwan’s name recognition with high schoolers is well beyond the typical NBA assistant.
How about Mike Woodson as an example?

Eric Musselman is an interesting example, but he has had a wild coaching ride. He went from HC of a couple lousy Warriors and Kings (NBA) teams, to AC under Herb Sendek at ASU and LSU, to sweet 16 run at Nevada...doing a bang up job at Arkansas so far (Elite 8 last year).
He is a guy who went from NBA to successful NCAA Assistant, now a really good high major HC.
He might be more the mold that our guys are thinking of.
