I listened to him on The BoardRoom podcast the other day. He's got the makings of a coach, but he needs some seasoning before moving up to DI bench. Maybe a front office-type spot, but not AC3.What if it's LaTulip? How long before TBT is over?
Well Alexander's spot is still open... Oh that's Tyler's spots forgive me...I listened to him on The BoardRoom podcast the other day. He's got the makings of a coach, but he needs some seasoning before moving up to DI bench. Maybe a front office-type spot, but not AC3.
I mean ideally you'd have a more senior staffer be granted the waiver. I don't think it's a big deal that Tyler's the one who got it, and I could see it having different benefits especially if you pair him and Alexander/Fraizer out there. In terms of the benefits/disadvantages of having Tyler vs another staffer, I'd assume it's close to a wash. For those freaking out on Tyler being on the recruiting trail, it's just a part time waiver that was granted until we have our AC3. Great experience for him though.
What we need to remember with LaTulip is that he's only coached players who are already professionals. On The BoardRoom, he was candid about how Euro League players rarely bust plays because their paycheck literally depends on playing perfectly; it's not unheard of for players who bust a play to be pulled off the court and sent home. Guys like that make beginning coaches look good no matter the situation. How would he do with a prima donna freshman 5*? Can he develop young men into the kind of mindset that has them hustling harder instead of pouting? That's what we need to know first.LaTulip seems to have a knack at recruiting, and he still has great passion for the Illini.
Based on what evidence? "Recruiting" former Illini to play on a team for former Illini in a tournament with a cash prize is, uh... not the same as recruiting high school athletes to play at a university.LaTulip seems to have a knack at recruiting, and he still has great passion for the Illini.
It may be the same now!Based on what evidence? "Recruiting" former Illini to play on a team for former Illini in a tournament with a cash prize is, uh... not the same as recruiting high school athletes to play at a university.
If I remember correctly, when he was on the team, LaTulip oftentimes was the lead "tour guide" during official visits. There was probably a reason for that.Based on what evidence? Either they liked Mike but our bag game was weak, or they didn’t like Mike. Cause we didn’t land a ton of great talent in those years. If I remember correctly, when he was on the team, LaTulip oftentimes was the lead "tour guide" during official visits. There was probably a reason for that.
You say “another staffer,” so does that mean Tyler is on staff in some role? I didn’t know that he was. If not, is he expected to be given a role (and no I’m not talking about AC3)?I mean ideally you'd have a more senior staffer be granted the waiver. It wouldn't be shocking for him to be a Grad Asst. You say “another staffer,” so does that mean Tyler is on staff in some role? I didn’t know that he was. If not, is he expected to be given a role (and no I’m not talking about AC3)?
That’s what I was thinking — especially with getting this special permission. Just wondering if it had happened and I just missed it.It wouldn't be shocking for him to be a Grad Asst.
