At about the age of 14 until about the time they turn 27, you will always love them, but there will be a LOT of days where you don't like them AT ALL.
That also roughly corresponds to the period when they believe you are the dumbest and meanest person on the earth.
To be fair, many (most?) of us (me for sure) went through that same phase.

Certainly all of us here at least lived through that phase in our lives 🤪

Short of NC's every other year there is nothing DeBoer will do at Bama that will satisfy the fan base. Maybe he has that in him, but I'd rather be the guy that follows the guy that followed the legend personally.

I subscribe to this as well.

The first time he loses two games (or heaven forbid, THREE) the natives will get restless.

If recruiting dips…oh boy.

The toughest has to be raising a teenager. Put me through the ringer. In retrospect, I owe my dad a big apology if I make the grade and see him again.

The older I get, the more I look back with similar thoughts on how poorly I handled a lot of things. Wisdom and maturity weren't my forte and I was more than a handful at times. Fortunate everyone survived my most egregious mistakes, and have my folks still too. I can thank them for their service and laugh when they bring up their stories of raising us. They made mistakes too, but the good far outweighed the bad. I think parents figure out pretty quickly it's often a thankless job, so your dad is must be watching wherever he is and wanting the best for you.

I'm not terribly religious, but something I think my religious friends do well with their kids is when they pray every night they go through all the things they appreciate. Makes the children see the world differently when they start thinking about what they have rather than what they want.

I question how much of DeBoer's success is due to Penix? Who gets the credit, the coach for helping the player achieve success, or was the 6th year guy just good?

There's no doubt, DeBoer is a great coach, but Alabama is currently the best program in college football. Is he the best coach? That I doubt. To me the question on DeBoer's success will come down to, how much of Alabama's success is due to Alabama?

Meaning, DeBoer wasn't a great recruiter at Washington, he wasn't bad, but he didn't bring in top 10 classes. The SEC is a much different beast than the Pac 12. You're going to need top talent and a lot of it. Will the Alabama name alone get him top 10 classes? top 5? I'm going to assume yes, but that will be telling I think. If you look at the 2024 team recruiting rankings, the SEC has 13 of the top 25 (Pac 12 had 2, new Big 10 had 6). If you are even the #15 class, there are 6 SEC teams better than you. Need talent to win.

All that said, it's a no brainer for a coach. I'm sure he will get a stupid amount of money. If he fails, that money spends just as well as if he were successful. And as pointed out 9-4 is viewed as failure at Alabama, 10-3 and they're going to be mad at you. So he can succeed, but not enough for Alabama and get fired. Which will leave him with that fat bank account, and another great school will snatch him up quickly once the crazies cut him loose. Or he's successful and it's gravy.

Neb got rid of pellini for a couple of 9-3ish seasons, turns out those were the good days

This is how people remember it but it was more that he was incredibly abrasive with the administration.

Only been 2-1/2 days since staff changes were announced. Seems like 2-1/2 weeks. Anxious to hear who the new additions will be.

I've seen comments from some Alabama fans suggesting that the fan base might be willing to cut him some slack because they understand how hard it is to follow a legend like Saban. I still think if he is consistently losing 3 regular season games he's going to be in trouble but or 10-2 he will probably be ok as long as they are making the playoffs more often than not.

Michigan did a similar thing when they forced Llyod Carr out. His last 3 seasons were 7-5, 11-2, 9-3. In addition to the Natty in 97 he was bringing in pro-style players and getting a lot of them to the NFL. They brought in a couple pretty bad coaches after him before finally getting to Harbaugh.

Wasn’t planned this way, but we had 3 in 15 months (twins). All three at the height of hormone hell at the same time. We thought we would have 3, all two years spaced apart. Lol.

Yeah I don’t see him leaving the Midwest and also don’t see him jumping as long as they pay him well and give him a solid amount for his assistants.
They gave him 3 raises over the last 2 seasons, and that doesn’t include the raise that Self got in order to have the runway to increase LL’s pay (it’s a basketball school, after all).

Plus if he already turned down Wisconsin and Nebraska, he’s not headed to a west coast school he has no connection to.

You're right ...

Lance was never leaving Kansas for Washington ... It would have to be the right Big 10 (Michigan) or SEC job for him to leave ...
