Do we expect any major shake ups at Illinois? Or will minor coaching changes be the extent of things?

I don’t understand why Buh was let go. Bret loves hiring his friends, wasnt Buh one of them. I haven’t questioned much during Bret’s tenure, this is the first time. I hope he has a home run waiting for us.

Bret would not have made the move with Buh without having someone else lined up that can help move this program forward. I appreciate everything he did for the program, especially with recruiting, but I was concerned when he was hired looking at his track record. Yes, lots of experience, but he has only stayed at one school for more than 3 years over his entire career, including a LOT of one year coaching positions. That includes his one year with Bret, whom he did not follow to Arkansas after 2012. Trust the process!

A new standard for me. If your school has to release some form of "our coach is staying" social media hype video because of another school's opening, you are publicly admitting your brand is inferior.
Or is it UT trying to build hype after finally living up to expectations after many years of suckiness. Given the season they just had, why wouldn't they proclaim this is the new norm and they expect to get to and win championships? It would be like us saying after last year "we're back" (from the dead, ha ha). No downside to a bunch of social media positivity to maintain momentum with recruits and fans.

The critical component is timing. Sark's name is being bandied about as a candidate, I'm sure some recruits, players, and parents are feeling a little antsy. Oregon just released a video proudly proclaiming that Lanning is staying. Texas is putting stuff out every week about their success. All of that is still within the consistent narrative, but this video is different. Sark is front-and-center. They are proclaiming their guy is staying. If you have to do that, you're saying there's >0 fear that he would leave for the Bama job.

Yes, there might be some of that. But it's also 4 days after the season ended, so it can also be a "great year, more to come" summary. Fans down here really like and beleive in Sark, and UT might have finally found their guy. Nothing about UT (funding, fans, confernece affiliation, stadium, etc.) holding back Sark from turning UT into the next Bama (very unlikley, not saying it will happen).

I once sat next to Coach Buh at the airport in Atlanta. He was coming back from a recruiting trip and was burning the phones for a solid hour as we waited for our delayed flight to board. I know it’s surface info - but my perception after listening to him talk to illini staff/HS coaches/ and whoever was that he was a very polished recruiter, tenaciously hard worker, and a strong evaluator of talent. He was selling the Illini staffer? On why the kid he was recruiting fit so well in our scheme. Hard to evaluate a guy based on that anecdote - but I left impressed. He made multiple calls while we waited - and his interpersonal communication skills were exceptional. Very surprising - maybe he didn’t jell will the coordinators is all I can think of. He’ll get another job quick.

Maybe he was starting to feel under appreciated with Henry and Jamison being elevated above him. Who knows, but I trust BB to have someone worthwhile lined up.

A couple of things from FootballScoop.

Bama expects to name their new coach by the end of the week (tomorrow?). Top names are Rees, Drinkwitz, Locksley, and DeBoer. It they are moving that fast, I expect it to be Rees, but I hope it's Drinkwitz.

New head coach at ULM demoted Koenning from DC, but kept him as LB coach.

The connecting-the-dots is that every coach or program that has been doing these posts in the past 24 hours are the ones connected to the UT job. It's purpose is to signal a decision.

I agree that Texas should be excited to keep Sark. You can't argue with the results.
