At age 71 , I have been a die hard Illini fan for over 60 + years.......Won many B$G titles in my backyard with a waning bucket for the win..............Suffered through the slush fund fiasco and many other down periods and I am very excited about the fighting Illini's upcoming season.........

There are many things that peeps can bring up to detract from the direction the Illini's program is in..........I believe that will all get sorted out after the next season ends.......I can see the situation from both sides really and I think a S16 season will calm all concerned with where the Illini are as far as ascending or descending.........

I'm ready for some Illini BB.................................I really really am.......
I'm also very excited for some Illini FB................I really really am....................

How strange that is to say about the same season after so many feeble seasons in FB..............

GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!!
Right there with you Pru, age and background. Hoping for the best seasons In a long time in both sports. But the liquor cabinet will be well stocked just in case!

I will say his seat will be extremely warm going into the season

I'm not in tune with the boosters, but I find that a little surprising. Not that I doubt you.

Last season's unravel was a big disappointment. Having a unified, hungry team by the end of the season is something he needs to figure out.

I remember Minnesota getting tired of glen mason winning seven games (on average) and going to a bowl. Brewster crapped the bed, and since then they have had kill and oar man basically produce more seven win seasons. interesting how different schools define success and “good enough”.

Michigan is a classic example IMO of epic failure of the fan base to recognize how out of control their expectations got. Llyod Carr ran a pro style offense that attracted NFL talent, and averaged almost 10 wins a season. His last two were 11 and 9. They pushed him out for his post-season results and nearly destroyed the program with RichRod and then Brady Hoke. Nebraska had the same issue IMO, as have many others.

Not defending Underwood here, just making an observation. I agree he needs to figure out how to peak for March Madness.

Why? Going to be 7th season here….3 straight tournaments..3 straight first weekend exits for a top 10 paid coach….that’s not getting it done in Josh’s eyes. Tell the boosters and Josh you have RayJ locked up and pass on other high major talent because of that only to end up with J Williams coming off a torn Achilles…not a good look. Don’t get me wrong I like Brad and think he’s a good coach and hope that he gets it done this year but the way he’s trending makes his seat warm.

What if we had hired

- Kelvin Sampson, got Indiana on probation, had a bunch of druggies and criminals on roster, fired
- Sean Miller - was sucessful for a while - fired at AZ for paying players and losing
- Archie Miller - fired at IU for never winning
- Shaka Smart - jumped from Texas after 6 seasons, made tourney 3/5 lost first round

Brad is not perfect but the grass is not always greener on the other side of fence

Remember the fiasco of last 3 seasons of Bruce Weber and the Groce years. Of course we all loved Bill Self and Lon Kruger. but there was no way Bill was turning down Kansas or Lon was turning down NBA.

Lmao. Sean has a .730 winning percentage for his career and has been to 8 s16 or elite 8s……yeah was only successful for a little while.

I laugh at you guys! His seat is ice cold... unless he dumps US. He is a top coach who wins 20+ each year in the toughest conference, recruits at a high level and does a great job promoting the school. I've been an Illini for 60 years and have survived the vast wasteland of poor coaching and recruiting. Brad is a gem. He maybe yells too much for some of these flowerlets, but most of his guys would run through a wall for him.

We've just had two highly valuable players return to the program, when they could have gone anywhere... because of Brad.

"S16 or...Sean Miller gets the bag" ?? How many years before Brad when we didn't make the Tournament?

On a positive note, during these shifting sands of a recruiting environment Brad has adapted very well and has attracted really good players.

Because YOU feel that he has not fielded a Big10 quality PG in two years (Frazier?) And you THINK he's been flirting with other jobs, he's on the hot seat?

go Illini!
Frazier was not a PG. He was a guard with 17% utilization who averaged 4 APG his sr yr passing to Ayo & Kofi. I love him regardless.

Yes BU has revitalized the program, but that was in part because of a VERY strong NIL program. The program has also regressed the last 2 years. I think Brad warmed up his seat by flirting with other jobs the past 2 off-seasons and going all in on a head-case recruit last year and one he couldn't land this year.

IL is a top 15 program, I don't think it's crazy to expect that Brad get top 15 results...or for Whitman to look elsewhere if he can't. I hope he doesn't have to and this year's team figures it out.

Was last year not the 1st NIL or did I miss something?

Question on Brad/our program. It seems it's not as "sexy" as it was a couple years ago in prep recruiting especially. Does this have to do with his coaching style?

I’d argue we’re still recruiting at a high level . What’s hitting prep recruiting is the transfer portal and that’s across all of basketball. Schools are taking less prep recruits per cycle.

It would be objectively hilarious if Whitman fired Underwood because he put all of his eggs in RayJ's basket and then put all of his eggs in Miller's basket and missed as well.

That posters here can't understand the parallel logic is chuckle enough for me, thanks

Having been an Illini fan for 65 years I don't see how some of the posters on this site can root for a team that employs a coach they hate. Underwood has brought the Illini from the lows of the Groce Era and made the program slightly below the blue bloods.
In all walks of life if you get well paid there are performance expectations. I’d say this is more about not meeting expectations than hate. My guess is the vast majority want BU to succeed.

That it is not getting it done in Josh's eyes is the best news heard here in ages/pages. Including Hawk and TJ returning.

Not a Brad fan I take it?
Perhaps.

I'm glad to hear it because I want our AD to hold people accountable.

I think BU is our best chance to succeed. I'm not convinced that a change would benefit it us, even if we have another 11-9, 8 seed, no top 25, first game exit. But to be our best chance he's going to have to up his game in a number of areas. One of the factors to make that happen is when his boss expects it.
