This is so stupid, especially since the video goes by so quickly you can’t really see the quarterback. But I guess they’re pretty sensitive about QB issues in Rocky Top these days.

I bet the internet finds out who it was by the end of the week. This is similar to the Astronomer CEO situation where all you had to do was not have a weird reaction that draws more attention to the thing. If they hadn't blurred it (or better yet just not posted the video) I bet nobody would care, but now the internet sleuths are curious.

NFL teams - bring your family to camp days! Get autographs!

College teams - if you bring a camera to practice you're going on a list.

It's in the linked article, if you read further. It's not a QB but their injured starting TE they were trying to keep quiet.

Not sure where to put this with the other Conference Realignment thread seemingly locked, so feel free to move, @Dan! However, I was thinking today how sad it is that we really only got to play Iowa at home ONCE during this renaissance in the Bielema Era. They beat up on us for so many years, and now we are getting depressingly few chances at revenge, lol. Add to the fact that Bielema being here would really allow that to grow into a true rivalry, and this is nothing short of a travesty.

So ... does anyone think there is ANY realistic scenario where we get geographical "pods" within the next decade in the Big Ten, allowing us to play some of our closer rivals more often? Right now, the Big Ten awkwardly breaks down into these categories (just my subjective classification, regardless of when teams joined).

West Coast Schools
Washington
Oregon
UCLA
USC

True Midwest
Nebraska
Minnesota
Iowa
Wisconsin
Illinois
Northwestern
Purdue
Indiana
Michigan State
Michigan
Ohio State

Northeast Schools
Penn State
Maryland
Rutgers

With the current crop, shifting schools into the west/east groups just gets tricky. I would love a scenario where we could get pods that we always play, similar to how the MLB teams play their division opponents more often than those outside of that group. You could have protected rivalries outside of the pods and this is by no means my "polished" final idea, but maybe something like this ... ranked in order of how often they might be an annual competitor in our current climate to try to show how "fair" these might look ... and yes, I put the Illini at #1 in our pod, baby. I also included some hypothetical protected cross-pod games for some teams.

Pacific Division
Oregon
USC ... Notre Dame
Washington
UCLA

Heartland Division
Illinois ... Northwestern, Purdue
Nebraska
Iowa ... Wisconsin, Northwestern
Minnesota ... Wisconsin

Great Lakes Division
Michigan ... Ohio State, Notre Dame
Michigan State ... Indiana
Wisconsin ... Minnesota, Iowa
Northwestern ... Illinois, Iowa

Mid-East Division
Ohio State ... Michigan, Penn State
Notre Dame ... USC, Michigan
Indiana ... Michigan State
Purdue ... Illinois

East
Penn State ... Ohio State
Miami (FL)
Maryland
Rutgers

Some hypothetical new additions to get to the right totals are, obviously, in green. You would only have 3 protected opponents FROM your pod, but teams could have several protected opponents outside of the pod, too. As stated above, I tried to include some examples of protected rivalries for some teams, but not everyone would have one ... but that is the case right now, so it's obviously not a huge deal, right?

Anybody else not buying the Arch Manning hype? He really couldn't beat out a 7th round pick in Quinn Ewers --who looked pretty darn abysmal today in his preseason debut. But, we are supposed to buy that he is this Heisman frontrunner (which is most lists right now).

Altmeyer is a better college quarterback as right now.
So is Allar and many others IMO. But ESPN has hyped this young man out realistic expectations.

He's got the name recognition, he has the Texas brand, a great roster --40 million plus worth I might add. But all I've seen when I watch him is a GOOD Quarterback.

I’m getting Todd Marinovich vibes.

Setting high expectations does the kid no favor. Altmeyer has a much better shot at impressing everyone because expectations for him are relatively low. Better to be off the radar than overhyped.

Completely agree. I have nothing against him as he seems like an outstanding young man.

I am more perturbed with the media placing these Vince Young-like expectations on a young QB who has done nothing to point to that (yet). Our nation wants another great Manning QB, just feel like no one in the media is pushing back against the Heisman frontrunner narrative.

I don't feel sorry for him by any means as his Manning name has garnered him the kind of publicity and hype that gives a 20 year old kid an 8 figure network.

time will tell regarding Arch

my guess is he’s the real deal . we just haven’t seen enough to know. it’s not easy for a soph to start ahead of a senior . just about everyone says he’s got more physical skills than his uncles

I think it was Quinn's job from the getgo. Sure if there was a big enough gap in performance they would've changed their minds, but it was never 50/50 battle for that job.

Sure looked that way. Manning's family had to be thinking ideal path to the NFL would be better with a season behind Ewers.

If I'm betting, I think he does great this year. While it's true he wasn't playing top tier teams last year during Ewers injury, his placement, arm strength, reads, and patience all look elite to my eye.

I find it weird that even his grandfather Archie is saying he will be back another year at Texas and the option to go to the NFL this off-season will not be considered.
It just seems like behind the scenes they understand that he isn't near what everyone is hyping him up to be.
I understand wanting him to be ready and have all the training, tutelage, and experience necessary before he makes the jump but Peyton had a terrible 1st year in the NFL and became a Top 5 QB All Time. If you really are THAT DUDE there is no reason to wait behind a good QB. I applaud Raiola for taking the beatings and stepping up as a freshmen and learning. I think that is a better path to growth then learning behind someone.

Honestly it just seems like you're starting with the assumption that Arch Manning is not good and then viewing every piece of information though a lens that confirms that assumption.

Arch has NOTHING to be ashamed of playing behind Ewers for two years . Ewers was a VERY GOOD college QB.
And there is NOTHING wrong with the family or Arch to stay in school and play at UT for two years. Its an experience he can never get again . He can play in the NFL for many years and likely will.

He seems like a good kid, and he comes from a great family. The Mannings, collectively, are football royalty and rightfully so,

Plus both his uncles Peyton and Eli played for all four years and if I remember correctly they both would been in the running of being the #1 overall if they declared during their junior years and were already in grad school their senior years.

Plus Arch ain't hurting for money even before his NIL checks cash.
