likely the nicest 35,000 seat venue in the country , by far .

this will help their program A LOT. the old place was a dump

I don’t think it helps, if anything it may hurt them. How many hundreds of millions of dollars were spent on this?

Not that all that money would instead be spent on the roster, but how much is Ryan putting towards NiL? Does NW even have anyone besides him giving money?

Players care about getting paid. They could care less about the stadium. Coaches care about getting paid and having money to pay players. The facility arms race in my eyes is over.

Indiana just won with a dump of a stadium because they had enough of a war chest to pay and retain players and probably have the best OC, DC, and HC trio in the country.

Not sure what future plans for a new stadium of their own that the Chicago Fire have. But they need to get out of Soldier Field and this could be a nice landing spot. I have no clue if Northwestern would be open to it though.

they are breaking ground on a new similar sized venue in the south loop along the river - near where the Sox want to build

edit : their agreement with Evanston would not allow that anyway . they had a real hard time getting them to permit 4-5 dates for summer concerts

I agree . but the end game should be every P4 school plays 9 conference games & 3 P4 noncon

I could easily be talked into 2 P4 noncon & just one G5 . but FCS schools should be prohibited. TV doesnt want those games & fans don’t either

not sure about what status the new PAC should be given

i agree with the no fcs teams. I would be fine jd we played 2 g5 teams and 1 p4 team. The other thing you could do is expand conference play to 10 games

They'd still want to be included in the playoff, no? That's where a ton of the revenue is going to be and I can't imagine the fans would stand for it from a sporting standpoint. Is it their way of saying they [still] don't plan on playing by the NCAA rules? Because that ship has mostly sailed anyway. Curious what 'break away' means for them. Still feels mostly like a bluff but if they have a new model, would be curious to see how they do it, and how big a hit they would take from the current streams. If they establish a conference model that still goes to the CFP, not sure it would be all that different. And staying out of the playoff after 3 straight losses would be a great way to look like a bunch of chickens. Just don't see where they have anything to gain.

i’m guessing that what they “want” is to play by their rules in everything roster related .
same game rules
but they want their own post season tourney & then their champion plays whoever for the National Championship

basically we will govern ourselves, play the actual game by NCAA rules , have our own 8 team tourney to determine who gets a spot in the CFP championship game . all the while getting their espn money and then some more espn money for their mini tourney

good luck with that
