Why at any point talk about 11+, though? The goal shouldn’t to be more like the NFL. These smaller programs make absolutely essential money traveling for these buy games, and we’d screw their programs more than they’re already screwed so we can play Wake Forest?
It looks like this is the opposite of the nadir. In fact, beyond the veil, it’s actually the Zenith.
College Football is the most popular/monetarily valuable sport in the country behind the NFL. That’s over the NBA, MCB/March Madness, MLB, etc.
It’s the best products that are getting the TV rights contracts and the viewership. That’s why the Big10 and SEC are being targeted and have the upper hand.
It looks like the two conferences will break away and form their own league while pulling select ACC and Big 12 teams. That’s why is why Texas Tech has been fighting to be relevant and ND voted for the Save College Sports bill. That will allow them to set their own NIL ceilings and rules while enforcing them (hopefully with antitrust protections).
Will the SEC and Big 10 break away and create their own set of rules?
I think logic dictates that it may also be time to look at a 40-team football-basketball only breakaway.
Those are the two sports driving 95-97pct of athletic department revenue. So, think, teams outside getting invited would Clemson, Miami, FSU, UNC, Duke, UConn, Kansas, and maybe Oklahoma State with their new financial backing.

no doubt CFB is at an all time high popularity wise . money proves that
but it’s never been more in trouble of splintering. I prefer 60-70 strong programs vs 30-40 . I do think there is going to be a formal division within FBS & i’m not at all sure it’s a positive thing

I do think it depends on what side of the overall effect of progress on whether you’ll have a positive or negative view.
An almost 11th hour revision to satisfy the Big 10 and SEC and the bill now has life.
No automatic pooling of rights I guess was the major hurdle. So, probably no super conference now.

Take away is a lot of sports will get cut and more money will go to football
There was a time when we kicked Penn Stste's (and most everyone else's) butt in fencing.

Some schools have been using companies that manage their multimedia rights, such as Learfield and Playfly, to provide NIL deals to athletes on top of revenue-sharing payments. That has helped top football programs spend more than $40 million on their rosters this season. The top men’s basketball programs are spending upwards of $15 million.
Conferences want those companies to be defined as associated entities — similar to boosters — and for those deals to count against the raised revenue-share cap.
