Penn State isn’t even close to the top of this chart. Yes they’re high - and much higher than Illinois - but nowhere close to OSU, Texas, Oregon.

Hard to allocate exactly between his tenure happening before the current price level and indeed pre-NIL entirely, his personal ability to recruit donors or what, but between recruiting rankings and NFL draft position and pro performance we know for a fact that isn't true. Those teams were overwhelmingly talented by any measure, and it would be a mistake to ret-con a 2026 snapshot of NIL resources into disbelieving things you already know.
