Ya, this was looking ugly months ago and is looking worse....It finally pushed me to drop Comcast earlier this year. Can't say I've miss them.

I don't know, I switched back to DirecTV last fall, and miss Comcast. I had DirecTV for 20+ years, it is worse now. Likely due to slow AT&T internet. Comcast was much faster.

Came across an article about a year or so ago saying that AT&T is looking to retire the Directv satellites within 3 to 5 years time in favor of streaming, hence, DirectvNow.

The thing I didn't like about BTN down here in Texas is that I didn't get all the overflow channels. Is there a way to get ALL the overflow channels on the internet?

If you get BTN on your cable/satellite you can get all the rollover channels online at BTN2Go.

Either DirectTV or Dish had an ad about getting all the Big Ten games by switching. I'll need to pay closer attention.

Yeah, you can login to BTN2Go and pick a game individually.

I don't think I can get live football games, though. At least per this comment on the BTN2Go website: Please be aware that BTN Plus Subscriptions will NOT include access to Big Ten Football games or any other televised B1G games or events (on BTN, ESPN, FOX, etc.).

I dropped Comcast years ago when I wasn't getting all the channels in my package, and they wanted to charge me $50 to come out and diagnose the problem. Sayonara Comcast.

Ya, I guess we're lucky in that we had fiber optic internet come into our neighborhood so it's super fast and made dropping Comcast for internet an option. (had wanted to drop them for TV for ages as they had always broadcast BTN in SD....now that they're fully dropping BTN all-together that was the straw that broke the camel's back.) We're using Google's Youtube TV on a Roku stick for television and liking it so far....not as clean as Comcast's X1 settop box, but at 1/3 the price, it's good enough (and has BTN in HD!).

Correct. If your cable package doesn't get BTN you won't be able to watch BTN content live on BTN2Go. It's not an over-the-top service a la HBOGO

For those of you who have an old unused antenna in the attic . . . we hooked ours up again and we get dozens of crystal clear over-the-air Chicago channels now. We could probably drop cable and subscribe to Sling or YouTube and miss very little.

I kind of doubt that ;), but just out of curiosity what did you tell us that is now happening?

Personally, I think this is negotiation, Comcast wants to pay less (who doesn't) & Big10 wants to maximize revenues (which is there job). Big10 is trying to raise pressure on Comcast to give in by having it cost them customers who are scared they will lose BTN & Comcast is trying to hold out until BTN drops prices. But they both lose out if BTN isn't available when football season starts. Is it all part of the master plan on communist cable cutters, not really, but the revenue portion is always part of the equation.

I have the Roku stick and use Playstation Vue streaming service. I get the BTN through the streaming service.

Pardon I wasn't very clear in my response. What you're quoting is the "BTN Plus" service, which is not the BTN TV channel you receive on your cable/satellite package. (BTN Plus is an online-only service where you can watch some non-televised B1G games & events for a monthly fee such as a few B1G men's basketball games.)
To your original question, if you get the BTN tv channel on your cable/satellite package, then you can watch BTN rollover channels online on BTN2Go. Since you were only talking about not receiving the rollover channels (which is a common situation with BTN subscribers across the country) I was guessing that you do indeed get BTN sorry about the confusion:)

Just FYI, Google's YouTube TV service has (in my opinion) all of the most-watched cable channels except for Viacom and Discovery channels and it seems to be the only streaming service that includes BTN in its base package. It is a legit option for anyone willing to consider cutting the cord and going streaming-only. We recently did that in my house.

There isn't even a referral program so I don't get any credit by saying this.

Agreed, I'm a pretty big fan of YouTube TV. Lots of channels (that I watch), no streaming issues, DVR capable.

How is the reception streaming? My experience has been good and bad, have not tried any of the services just Illini streams.

So far it has been pretty great. Then again, we found we have gigabit fiber at our house so we signed onto that first. Internet bandwidth is not an issue and any problems generally are related to the streaming service rather than our ISP. There was like a hour-long outage in the middle of the World Cup and a few days later I got an email from YouTube saying they were sorry and would be giving all subscribers a free week in compensation. That alone makes me happy I switched.

Generally speaking, I have not noticed any quality issues when it comes to streaming. Everything seems to come through in HD just fine and I haven't really ever experienced any kind of buffering. Apparently ESPN is sort of infamous for spotty streaming, but we suck too much lately to spend a lot of time on ESPN anyway. In my short time with the service, ESPN has been fine for baseball games and the like, anyway.

Oh, and local channels are included plus unlimited DVR.

Regarding YouTube TV.. I remember reading that it wasn't available everywhere. What about central Illinois??

This sucks. Getting a bar to put the Illini game on the TV in a college football town like Atlanta is not easy. Sound? Yeah right.

Youtube TV is a pretty darned good deal. The only channels I can think of that aren't on there are WGN, MTV, and Comedy Central.

You're basically mooching off of venture capital money willing to price it at a loss to get people hooked. Always a good idea to jump on those deals when you can.
