The rain delay and leading 4-1 in the 6th isn’t helping their decision-making either.
Pretty much got to decide now. I'm assuming it will be 8 in a row by night's end and I presume we're not conducting a fire sale. That doesn't preclude us from both buying and selling, however.

I don’t know how this team continues to roster Mancini.

They just sent down Mastrobuoni after Madrigal came off the IL. I’m not going to claim Mastrobuoni has been any sort of great player, but he’s at least a left handed batter off the bench who can play multiple infield positions and has swung a relatively hot bat over the last 5 or 6 weeks.

If you’re going to carry a guy just to be the back up first baseman, shouldn’t he be able to - you know - play first base? There’s no possible way Mancini is better at 1B than Wisdom is.

Totally agree. At least Mastro could pinch run & play all over the field. Trey looks done. He seems resigned to his fate of being DFA'd at any moment.

$14,000,000 guaranteed for 2 years and his bonuses (up to $3,500,000/year) start to kick in at 375 plate appearances. He has 261.
I had more hope on him being DFA'd before they took Rios off the 40 man.
Who knows? Maybe they can trade Mancini for Cease. The White Sox owe us.

Velazquez traded to the Royals for a reliever. Good for him. He should get to play over there. Looks like the guy we got (Jose Cuas) is more than just a rental,(only his 2nd year in the majors) so hopefully he can help us out.

Cuas can’t get the ball over the plate. Not sure I like this trade.

Stroman will exercise his option and stay with the Cubs next year. With the way he's pitching no one will offer him more than the option.
If Suzuki has to play he can't bat higher than 7th.

I think the trade was more about freeing up a logjam in the outfield at AAA after PCA was called up than anything else. I wouldn’t expect to see Cuas in the Majors until the rosters expand unless there’s an injury.
Gotcha. Ok, that makes sense.

Jed continues to read this thread. Just over 24 hours later, it looks like it’s Mancini being DFA’d to make room for Candelario.

Jed, when you read this, DM me. I have all sorts of good ideas.

Never thought they would eat that money.
When they made the decision not to sell assets, they needed to also make the decision not to pinch pennies. (or... you know... millions of dollars...) Either go for it, or don't. If you are trying to win a pennant, your best players have to play regardless of contracts.

That contract was a sunk cost before the ink dried.

Edit. OK, maybe I was hallucinating? Thought I saw something that no one else is confirming.
