Daniel Bryan Retiring

It's a shame. Not that many have burned that bright for such a short period of time. He was a great worker, the fans got behind him, and he sold a bunch of merchandise. But he still succeeded despite the best efforts of the company. His arch happened organically and people bought in. Meanwhile, they're trying like hell to get people to care about Roman Reigns, but it's just not happening.

I saw a Smackdown taping in the Quad Cities this past April. Unfortunately, it was the week he was taken off the tour with his injury. It's a shame I missed seeing him, and actually his final matches, by one week.

It was quite the send off last night. I cannot recall anyone getting that kind of treatment and then it dawned on me that publicly killing off Daniel Bryan the wrestler may be the only way to finally get Roman over with the fans.

I thought he was retiring due to back or neck issues...it made me sad when he said it was due to concussions and them finding damage to his brain already.

The fans don't want that. His character being forced on the fans will be his demise.

I want to see things like zambonis being commandeered and Vince McMahon's Corvette being filled with concrete. The product is lame now!

lol, yeah, Stone Cold was one of a kind. It remains to be seen if killing the character of Bryan will allow Roman, or any other future babyface, to get over as WWE champ as well as Daniel, Stone Cold, or the Rock did. The fans seem accepting of Rock and Austin falling into oblivion. You still hear What chants occasionally, Stone Cold has his podcast in WWE, and the Rock will be back for Wrestlemania again. Their existence never halted the advancement of another superstar though, and that is the dilemma that WWE is trying to solve with the death of the Daniel Bryan the wrestler.

For as much as everybody talks about how great the Attitude Era was (and it was), there was a lot of god awful storylines back then too.

Bryan retiring absolutely sucks though. If not for him, you don't have guys like Sami Zayn getting the opportunity now in NXT where they'll eventually get called up to the main rosters. Hopefully they can keep him on as one of the coaches down in NXT or have him doing something where he's able to teach the younger generation of wrestlers what he's learned over the yeras.

I haven't watched since the Attitude Era, but I just thought of one of the most obnoxious storylines. Anyone remember when Mae Young gave birth to Mark Henry's baby?

Was it.....a hand? I vaguely remember it.

I have to agree with others who say the product has gone downhill. They can't find a main eventer worth a darn anymore. Somebody who has the look, the ring skills, and can kill it on the mic. They get a lot of guys who have one or maybe two things but not the total package.

I just can't get behind guys like Owens and Bray Wyatt. It was one thing when the huge fat guys were wrestling because of size (Yokozuna, Earthquake, Viscera) but now they just have guys who are normal sized but pudgy? I don't get it. Either get in shape or go full fatty!
