Was Lee highly regarded when he came to Illinois?

Not really but the staff thought enough of him to start him in the opener against Murray State. Quite unusual for a true Freshman to start as an OL.

According to his bio he was the first Illini true freshman offensive lineman to start in an opener in 20 years.

He only started one other game during the season so that should give you an idea of how he did.

I just don't get it. God given talent with the ability to play football at the Big10 level and also a free education at a world class university... I know all the facts haven't been released but doesn't look good for them. What a waste!

Of course it has made it to ESPN already.

OK, and this, two of them live in Bromley Hall, and the incident took place in Bromley. Really? What kind of insanity is this? They break into a room, with gun(s), to steal from someone in the same dorm where they live? That's nuts.

I'm just flabbergasted. What was there to gain? With so much to lose... :tsk:

Watkins only enrolled in January! So he got as far as spring ball before throwing away his opportunity... :frustrated:

I'm all for innocent until proven guilty in the criminal world - but when it comes to sports scholarships, you get arrested for armed robbery, you pack your bags...

There's always the chance that these guys may not be guilty, and are being falsely accused. So being arrested by itself is a conviction. I think we have to, as they say, let it play out. I think that's all that the athletic department should say right now.

Reading the account of the invasion, I would guess these guys wouldn't have scored very high on the Wunderlich test at the combine.

SMH...

Dumb move, fellas.

Apparently the victim recognized one of their voices and then he took his mask off and tried to make light of the situation.....good Lord

Behrens tweeting that Holcombe and Lee were already previously suspended for breaking team rules.

No clue if that's new info or not. Watkins is now suspended as well.
