Dee Brown named Roosevelt University head coach

Congrats to Dee. I know he is persona non grata with Illinois after some incident(s) while he was associated with the staff. Hope he can have some redemption to fill a coaching spot at a major program in the future. Also, if anyone knows what the incident was, my DMs are open. I'm mostly curious

I have no idea, but I had the pleasure of meeting Dee and literally playing shuffleboard against him at a bar in Chicago for like four hours one Sunday, lol. He’s awesome (exactly what you’d hope/expect as an Illini fan), and he had nothing but great things to say about Illinois, including the current leadership.

Whatever this “incident” was, I hope it can be water under the bridge. Having Dee as an ambassador for the orange and blue again would be so awesome, and I really think it’d be a killer recruiting tool. Even the non-Illini fans who grew up in Chicago that I was with that day were pretty star struck and talking about their great memories of the ‘05 team with him. He is still absolutely remembered very well by all sports fans in Chicago.

That’s all pretty awesome; and cool to hear. But, what I really wanna know is…who won
in shuffleboard. ;)

So, would head coach at an NAIA school be a step up from assistant coach at a Div I school? Bump in salary?
have to wonder if whatever happened here has made it more difficult for DB to climb the coaching tree. don’t know what happened so i have no idea but with five years at UIC and his background/connections I am surprised at this move

Highly unlikely on both. Used to play against Roosevelt University back in the day and I am surprised at this move from UIC. Don’t see how this is a step forward from any standpoint, unfortunately.

May not be economically progressive, however it gives him an opportunity to put his stamp on a program and reap the benefits personally. That may have been more important to him

Just searched for the university and found that they play at NAIA. This association is new to me.
Could anyone briefly explain what level it is? Are the schools in NAIA usually less competitive than NCAA DII? If so, what about NCAA DIII?

NAIA is a competitor to the NCAA. It mostly made up of smaller private colleges. In revenue sports NAIA is probably on average somewhere between DII and DIII, but I've read that in some sports, like tennis, some NAIA programs are right up there with good D1 programs.
