Combination of one on one and double team.....double team needs to come from Garza's blind side

in the post, one and one and tell kofi to move your feet and go straight up. When Garza is on the perimeter is where it gets tricky.

Whatever you do, if you're gonna foul Garza... Foul him. Minimize the and-1s.
He has to guard Kofi and Giorgi too. Make him move his feet to keep up in transition and in the half court on D.
Ditto to what doowink said about bringing the double from his blind side as he makes his initial move. If he doesn't pivot back into it, oh well, try again later, don't get greedy.
This game is going to be a matter of effort and aggression. I feel like the team is going to be up for it more than any other game so far.

Agree, plus maybe in some rotations have Hawkins on him, when he rotates out to 3 pt range. We gotta keep Kofi in the game. If he is running out to 3pt range a lot he might get in foul trouble. We need him to make Garza work on defense too. This is a key. Agree with you too tiger, you stole my post, lol.

agree - indiana had success with this. Iowa went stone cold from the outside - no fgs in 10 mins. in the 2nd half. So this scrape down can work - but if they start getting hot we'll have to cover the outside and just take our chances 1 on 1.

I’d also say Indiana’s roster doesn’t give them much of a choice. They can’t 1v1 him in the post without him making it look like practice vs a walk on.

Kofi can give more 1v1 resistance than any big on their roster.

Good point - once he gets the ball down low - he is pretty tough for them to defend. IU has an advantage over us covering him outside (ie Kofi struggles). they were letting IU get pretty physical with him. Kofi usually doesn't get the same leeway. Lets hope they call the chickenwing.

We need that experienced 6'10" long, bouncy, wirey, pestery, annoying freaky athlete for Garza. I think you can get under his skin and cause him to do things that will get him in trouble. Give me the future Senior Hawkins tonight and he might be all of that (withstanding freaky athlete).

I agree that CH is going to be a good one.. and if he were to suddenly have a coming out party tonight, so to speak, he could cause some problems for Iowa and other B1G teams the rest of the season....but to expect that from a freshman with limited minutes, thus far, this season......well I would sure welcome it....and I'm expecting that type of performance from CH at some point and time...but probably not tonight. Would absolutely love to be wrong

Most of the posts so far have been focused on how to stop him when Iowa is on offense. I think that we need to make him work when Iowa is on defense. Drive the lane. Feed Kofi. Make him work hard on defense. Maybe get him in foul trouble.

Commented something similar in the game thread but Ayo needs to go at Garza. Get downhill and pick up some fouls. Garza doesn't have the athletic ability to stop Ayo without fouling.
