What??? We lost by 43 points on national tv. Better believe there is gonna be some emotional hot takes.
I can say cooly and calmly that this was a ridiculous disaster and in the making for a while now. Sadly, this is actually as bad as I thought it would be too. We are such a disconnected and lost team rn and BU is so outclassed against coaches like Hurley and Scheyer. This Duke team is phenomenal I just knew this would be a UConn level loss. BU is out of his league and doesn’t have the staff to make up for his shortfalls any more.

It'll be: "Give them credit, they were great. They could win the National Championship! We gotta hit some shots, we're gonna learn from this, we'll get better. And healthy. You know we've got some injuries, guys have been battling sickness. Behind the scenes, there's stuff going on. No excuses! But we have a lot of .. excuses!"

How I feel as an Illinois fan after hearing Brad say we needed to keep shooting 3’s after clearly being broke.

Said it a couple of weeks ago but I don’t see anybody back after this year. Josh can’t afford to gamble on another year with BU making the decisions. Not in this era of college ball. The money will dry up quickly and players are gonna see KJ as a cautionary example.

We will be 18 - 14. No way they put us in with the way we played over the last 10 of the year.
It does not work like that. 18-14 is a lock for getting in the tourney. The bubble is absolutely atrocious this year.

However, getting to 18-14 is not a given anymore. 17-15, and that is firmly on the bubble, and possibly on the wrong side and playing in Vegas tourney. Illini will not be in the NIT.

January 2nd feels so long ago. The talk from many were final 4 aspirations.

Tonight: Can we even win another game?

I don't care about how sick and injured the team has been, tonight's effort and execution shows this coaching staff is not up to snuff. 2-26 from behind 3 point line. That is pee-wee level stats, and it is a recurring theme. The players have failed, and the coaching has failed to adjust with the roster construction (also a coaching fail).

I know shooting is contagious, but at some point, the coaches need to accept that this team can't hit 3's. Brad's stubbornness this year is going to drive his seat warm. Two marquis Saturday night games in a row where the team collapsed in every way.

No way to sugar coat it: this season is becoming an utter failure, even if they team wins one more to make the tourney.
The problem is Brad wants to play like an NBA team but we have nobody that can shoot the 3 like an nba player

We just suck, no one is as good as they think they are or as advertised. Spurts here and there sure, but ELITE player play with consistency, no matter the competition. We’ve become a really bad team. We’re getting whooped in the Pizza Hut parking lot again and again and again and keep coming back with the same game plan. What a waste of a season.

I don’t think they should be in the tourney and I’ll be honest- I don’t want them to go. They don’t deserve it and I don’t want to watch them get embarrassed and bounced early yet again. I want to be saved from watching this ridiculously bad play anymore. And it just keeps getting worse every game. National embarrassment of a game. The basketball world is just talking about how Duke completely dismantled Illinois. A real significant setback for the program. And let’s face it- we all some it coming, I thought we’d lose by 30. I was too hopeful apparently.

Exactly right. Underwood made choices. We are close to seeing the final results on those decisions regarding roster, style of play, and staff makeup. Looks like he struck out on all three of those (though SOME of his assistants are really good, as are a SOME of the players).

If he was ashamed he would try something different, but yet he still starts Kylan and Ben ahead of DGL and Will...but yeah, it's the kid's fault...smh
Ok, if Will starts, where do you bench points come from? He still had 22 minutes.

DGL had 8 points, 4 fouls and nothing else on the stat line. Boswell played well. He also guarded Flagg for a good portion of the game.
