Appreciate your take. I am not a coach by any means but to answer your question if a team is shooting threes poorly and their two point shots are falling then that should be an obvious clue to have them shoot the higher percentage shots. Play to the player’s strengths. So BU told everyone at the beginning this was a fantastic team with great shooters. I’m not arguing that they are not but they are clearly better as a group at shots inside the 3 pt line. Just my thoughts
They're good points. The problem here is that defenses are going to collapse.

Here's another major issue. We're not getting stops and turnovers anymore. Those lead to run-outs, breaks and easy offense. That's just disappeared and our defensive metrics gave dropped like a brick. We don't get easy buckets. That's an enormous part of our game. Tough to do that when you're not digging in. .

Like you, this is JMO.

Tomi is still not right- whether it’s the ankle or the illness- I think they need to sit him for a bit and get him back to full strength- this would have been the game to do that- I know with Morez out it’s really hard to do that , but how much more would we have lost by? And why did he play 32 minutes when it didn’t matter

Humbrickhous is unplayable- I know this is beating a dead horse but just stop playing him for the love of god, he is not a good shooter in competitive game situations. Will Riley should get all of his minutes- ALL of them

Brad has lost the team, they’ve lost confidence and he doesn’t seem to be doing anything to adjust, practice a zone, tell players they do not have the green light to shoot threes, have a three pass minimum every possession- DO Something

All of you, who look at numbers and what? Analytics make me want to cry. Michigan st. 2 transfers. Freaking Spartans.

I started to listen to Brad's post game comments but had to stop when he had the temerity to say "it's just one game."
I suppose he is technically correct as each of the bad losses in this season collapse is "just one game" after another but come on.

Unbelievable.
The first game in the round of 64 is also “just one game”, except it is possibly the last game. Maybe they are saving all their made 3s for the tournament, while they continue to lose each “just one game” until then.

He's got a team of talented players, but they are extremely young and they lack size.
They don't lack size, they're one of the biggest teams in the country. They don't have any depth bigs though and that's very bad with Morez injured.

However they are skinny and unathletic for the most part at this level.

I'll give Ivisic a pass because he's still recovering from mono but he needs to add a lot of functional strength and be able to play more physically. He's got the frame to do so too.

Ben is 6'8 and actually has enough height where he could function as a big but his lower body is too weak and he gets pushed around(Goode suffered from the same chicken legs issue).

Riley is a reclass that's incredibly skinny and really long enough or explosive enough to make up for the lack of strength yet.

Carey Booth is a twig.

Is there something in Undergood’s contract that says he can’t use a zone? Did he enjoy getting beat that bad? Why on Earth for the respect of yourself, your players, fans, University would you not switch to a zone. They didn’t even have to have practiced it. Every kid knows how to play zone defense. Unfathomable.
Coach’s pride trumps all.

Not accepting what's wrong and stating we were good in 1st half. Is massive disconnect from reality. Maybe BU is KamalToe and Joe? Really m? Horrible m+

Both ignored me too; if it makes you feel better…But, I’m pretty sure it was long before I agreed with you on this…

I’ve been ignored by so many “prolific” posters at this point I’ve lost count. I wouldn’t sweat it.

“Carey Booth is a twig”

Did you see the 7’3” Italian we are recruiting? If Booth is a trig, this guy is a blade of grass. He turns sideways and disappears except for his shoes, which are untied.

To be clear, I am not advocating for his removal, but does anyone know what Underwoods buyout is? I didn’t follow it, but I assume he got an extension after last year and it would be a big number. He’s done a poor job of handling a difficult season and changes clearly need to be made. I’m hoping mostly for the players sake they can turn it around. Team moral has to be cratering right now. Coaches have to walk a fine line between building their confidence and pushing them hard to correct a multitude of mental errors.
If Illinois were to fire Underwood without cause, the school would owe him about $30.6 million, subject to Underwood having a duty to find another job and Illinois being entitled to offset its payment to Underwood based on his income from the new position. At present, Illinois’ buyout payments to Underwood would be made in monthly installments through the end of the scheduled contract term, which is now April 30, 2030.

If he leaves on his own for a job he owes 15MM and double if a big ten team or something like that

I happened to run across this updated definition on the Merriam-Webster site today.

Pathetic adjective

pa·thet·ic

1 : The University of llinois men's basketball defensive execution and effort as a result of being coached by Zach Hamer

2 : The University of illinois men's basketball 3 point execution as a result of being coached by Tyler Underwood

3 : pitifully inferior or inadequate

This is my takeaway. You relayed it better than I did. When I say size, I don't necessarily mean height. Strength and physicality is a major issue.

Both of the following are true:

1. This team is trash and Brad Underwood needs to look in the mirror and ask real questions

2. Chris Beard is a garbage person and anyone pushing him as a future Illini head coach needs to look in the mirror and ask real questions
Yea I am fine with a change but no way we can hire Beard as good as he is when we set a president when we kicked Kendrick Nunn to the curb over domestic abuse allegations. No way I accept that type of person as our head coach.

Someone in the run-up said it wouldn't hurt us even to lose by 40.

It hurts

People talk about the talent Brad brought in this year but no one thought that last year but Brad. I think we had one top 100 transfer. Our transfers are pretty much mid major talent level, Brad just misjudged them.

What we might get an Honorable Mention All Big Ten player or two. That’s not a talented team.

Pearl is really a stain on the program at Auburn.

Have we not heard any from the TSJ saga?

This is more of the ethics champ cope for the Weber era.

There's a part of me that thinks BU may have another team or two in mind after this season. I didn't watch the presser, but he doesn't seem as angry.

He's not making fart noises to describe a player's effort. And maybe Josh is working behind the scenes as well.

Losing Johnson was like losing the glue that held this mess together, he is the only Big Ten tough player we have. Brad better build a better brain trust or he will be on the outside looking in, the man can't win close games with the support/advice he's currently getting. Fix it or hit the bricks
I feel sorry for our guys, no leader on the floor or bench
When Johnson went down, there was no one on the team, who could step in and rebound and quard a legitimate big and fill that void left by Morez Johnson. Illinois lacks physicality, and it showed last night.

Honest question: I know it is very unlikely that Whitman fires BU at the conclusion of this miserable season (you simply cannot fire a fire a year after an E8, and considering how far BU has brought the program from the depths of Groce era). However, can Whitman fire assistant coaches?

There is no way that Junior and Hamer can or should be anywhere near a program at Illinois' level, and I just don't see BU doing it (especially his own son) on his own.

So this is sorta like having gum stuck on the bottom of one's shoe then?
